Home My WebLink About2001 05 14 Consent D Aquatech B-10 Cleaning/Vacuum Truck COMMISSION AGENDA ITEM D CONSENT X INFORMATIONAL PUBLIC HEARING REGULAR May 14,2001 Meeting I' MGR ~ //Y Authorization REQUEST: Utility/Stormwater Department Requesting Authorization to Purchase a Sanitary and Storm Sewer CleaninglVacuum Truck by Piggybacking ofT of Escambia County Utility Authority Bid #2001-03 PURPOSE: The purpose of this Board item is to request authorization to piggyback offEscambia County Utility Authority Bid #2001-03 with Heintzelman's Truck Center, Inc. for the purchase of an Aquatech B-10 CleaningNacuum Truck at a cost of$184,952,OO. CONSIDERA TIONS: This equipment is needed to adequately perform maintenance to the sanitary and storrnwater sewer collection systems to prevent sewer blockages and flooding, The cleaning/vacuum truck is used to remove sand, roots, debris, grease and organic matter that may accumulate in the sanitary and stormwater sewer collection system including piping, wetwells, catch basins and sedimentation control structures. We currently contract out these services for the sanitary sewer system at a cost of approximately $40,000 per year. However, the work is generally limited only to responses to problems with little preventative maintenance occurring, Stormwater system cleaning has been limited to manual cleaning. Staff has extensively reviewed similar equipment by other vendors and determined that the Aquatech B-1 0 best fit the needs of our system, Aquatech had the advantage based on the operational noise level, user friendly control configurations, safety considerations, and the Cummins engine. All three of the vacuum trucks were field demonstrated and tested. A comparison matrix is attached. The equipment will share duties between Utility and Stormwater and be staffed with one person from each. May 14,2001 Consent Agenda Item D Page 2 FUNDING: This equipment was budgeted for in both the Utility and Stormwater Utility budgets at $100,000 each. The cost will be split 50150 and is within the budgeted amount. Expenditure of the funds will occur within 90 to 120 days. RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that authorization be granted to piggyback off of Escambia County Bid #2001-03 with Heintzelman's Truck Center, Inc. of Orlando for the purchase of an Aquatech B-lO Cleaning/Vacuum Truck at a cost of$184,952.00 paid equally from the Utility Enterprise Find 3600-56410 and Stormwater Enterprise Fund 130-56410.
