MGR. / Dept.
REQUEST: The Public Works Department requests authorization from the City
Commission to appropriate funding in the amount of $8,840.50 for the
removal of overhead power lines along Northern Way at Tuscawilla Square.
PURPOSE: The purpose of this agenda item is to request authorization from the City
Commission to appropriate funding in the amount of$8,840.50 for the removal of
overhead power lines along Northern Way at Tuscawilla Square.
CONSIDERATIONS:
>> This agenda item is submitted to authorize the City's portion ofthe cost to remove the
existing overhead power lines located along Northern Way just north of Winter Springs
Boulevard.
>> Bryce Foster Corporation is the Developer ofthe Tuscawilla Square project, located at the
northeast comer of Northern Way and Winter Springs Boulevard. Bryce Foster recently
contacted Progress Energy to design and provide the necessary electrical service for
Tuscawilla Square. The site is currently served primarily by the existing overhead power
lines along Northern Way. Progress Energy's initial design upgraded the existing power
service but did not involve or require the removal of any overhead power facilities. Bryce
Foster has paid Progress Energy for this scope of work, but no work has been completed.
>> Underground power service to Tuscawilla Square is available from Winter Springs
Boulevard. Utilizing this available underground power service would allow for the
removal of a portion ofthe existing overhead facilities along Northern Way in the vicinity
of Tuscawilla Square.
>> The construction cost for providing underground power service from Winter Springs
Boulevard is $17,681 more than the initial design, which would not have included the
removal of any overhead power facilities.
