REQUEST:
Parks and Recreation Department wishes to inform the City Commission
regarding the Economic Impact of Central Winds Park Larger Sports
Tournaments.
PURPOSE:
The purpose of this item is to inform the City Commission of the
Economic Impact of Central Winds Park larger Tournaments.
CONSIDERATIONS:
. Parks and Recreation staff attended Seminole County Parks and Recreation Technical
Subcommittee Meetings.
. At meetings in February, 2006, Parks and Recreation was informed by Seminole County
Tourism Development about the Economic Impact of Sports in Seminole County.
. Parks and Recreation staff researched all larger tournaments held at Central Winds Park
for the past 5 years. They obtained the official multipliers from Seminole County
Tourism Development that are used county wide.
. Multipliers used by Seminole County Tourism Development are:
- Youth in State participant, per event day $ 57.00
- Youth out of State participant, per event day $ 61.00
- Adult in State participant, per event day $ 91.00
- Adult in State spectator, per event day $ 91.00
- Adult out of State participant, per everyday $ 122.00
- Adult out of State spectator, per event day $ 122.00
(Adult Event .75 Spectators, Youth Events 1.5 Spectators)
. The Central Winds Park larger tournaments for the past 5 years have a total county wide
Economic Impact of $ 4,912,286.00. The City of Winter Springs has benefited directly in
Concession Food and Drink, Winter Springs Merchants Food and Drink, and Local Gas
Purchases.
. Parks and Recreation will continue to provide large sports tournaments that do not disrupt
league play or adversely affect the winter and summer down times that ensure the quality
of the Central Winds Sports Fields.
