REQUEST: Public Works Department Advising tll1e City Commission of the findings relative
to the approximate cost of stamped concrete.
PURPOSE: The purpose of this Board item is to advise the City Commission of the findings
relating to the installation costs of stamped concrete compared to other alternatives.
CONSIDERATIONS:
A request was made at the January 22, 2001 City Commission meeting for staff to
explore the costs of stamped concrete to determine if it was possibly a more cost effective
alternative than the stamped asphalt selected for the intersection of Winter Springs Boulevard
and Tuskawilla Road. Staff estimates that stamped concrete for this particular application is
two to three times more expensive than the stamped asphalt and slightly less than concrete
pavers.
We contacted the local Bomanite representative for a stamped concrete cost estimate
on a roadway, Bomanite is the brand name of an industry leader in stamped concrete. Their
estimate is $10 a square foot, which does not include demolition, maintenance of traffic
(MOT), or construction engineering and inspection (CEI). For traffic calming on City streets,
the $10 a square foot is probably close. For the intersection of Tuskawilla Road and Winter
Springs Boulevard, I would estimate the final cost after MOT, CEI and contractor markup to
be $18 to $22 square foot. A comparison of the alternatives for Tuskawilla Road is below,
Stamped Asphalt
Brick Pavers
