Authorization
REQUEST: The Finance And Information Services Departments Are Requesting
Authorization From The City Commission For An Emergency Supplemental
Appropriation In The Amount Of $19,645 To Purchase And Install A New
Server, Migrate To A New Windows/SQL Operating System For The MUNIS
Financial Software And Merge The Purged Data Back Into The System.
PURPOSE: The purpose of this Emergency Agenda item is to request authorization for a
supplemental appropriation in the amount of $19,645 to purchase and install a new server,
migrate to a new Windows/SQL Operating System for the MUNIS Financial software and
merge the purged data back into the system.
CONSIDERATIONS: Due to operating system limitations on our current MUNIS server, it is
necessary to migrate to a new server and operating system. Currently, file sizes in SCO Unix
are limited to 2 gigabytes in size. Once a file reaches this size the data contained in the file
must be reduced. We have reached this file size once in the Utility Billing Module and are
quickly approaching that limitation again. To overcome this issue we are migrating to a
Microsoft Windows platform that does not have this file size limitation. Additionally, by
migrating to a Windows platform this will provide for greater continuity in our server
environment simplifying patch management, data backup and disaster recovery procedures.
FUNDING:
A supplemental appropriation is being requested in FY 07 budget with 58.4% of Funding from
Water and Sewer Fund Reserves ($11,473) to be transferred to the General Fund AND 41.6%
of Funding from General Fund Reserves ($8,172).
The total funding would be distributed as follows:
Consulting 1341-53181
Travel 1341-54010
Capital: Data Processing Equipment 1341-64200
Contingency 1341-56910
Total Amount
$ 7,200
$ 1,800
$ 8,860
