refer to this guide when you begin
to landscape and beautify your new
homestead.

TREE CITY USA
We at the City of Winter Springs are proud
to be a certified as a Tree City USA through
the National Arbor Day Foundation. This
designation is achieved by completing a
stringent set of guidelines and per capita
spending to maintain and upgrade our
community forestry program. For the past
two years, Winter Springs has also
maintained aTree City USA Growth Award
which illustrates the ongoing positive
action being taken to make Winter Springs
a better place in which to live.
SOME RECOMMENDED TREES FOR
WINTER SPRINGS
Here is a brief list of suggested shade trees
for the borne landscape. Please research
the growth habit and mature size for each
species to ensure that it is placed in a
location that is appropriate not only at
planting, but for years to come.

WINTER SPRINGS
ARBOR ORDINANCF*
1. An arbor permit must be acquired to
remove a tree with a trunk diameter of
4" or more.
2. Regardless if the tree is living or dead,
an arbor permit is still required.
i. The city encourages the removal of
exotic, invasive species. There is no fee,
but a permit is still required to do so.
4. Currently, the fee for an arbor permit is
$2 5.00 for a residential lot. Trees that
are severely diseased, injured or dead
still require a permit but the fee is
waived.
S. In order to maintain a healthy canopy
within the city, when trees are removed,
the ordinance may require replacement.
6. Any activity done without first
acquiring an arbor .permit will be
subject to penalties and/or fines.
*Please note these are selected guidelines
taken from the Arbor Ordinance. The

PROHIBITED TREES
Exotic, invasive species represent a
destructive force in our natural
environment. They rob our native plant
communities of biological diversity, water
and nutrients. The City of Winter Springs
has joined forces with other Florida
communities in the effort to stop the
spread of these plants.
Please avoid planting the following trees:
• Chinese Tallow ("Popcorn Tree")
• Chinaberry
• Camphor Tree
• Brazilian Pepper
• Jacaranda
• Melaleuca
• Cat Claw Mimosa
• Eucalyptus
