709 Sybilwood Circle
Winter Springs, FL
Good Evening. My name is Patty Condon and I've been a resident of Tuscawilla for
14 years. I'm here tonight, with some of my neighbors, out of concern for the
appearance of the area around the Tuscawilla entrance at Trotwood Blvd. Specifically,
I'm referring to the southeastern portion, which consists of what now remains of the
original concrete and wood fence that was installed by the developer. I'm sure everyone
here knows the fence I'm referring to; it's the one with the ugly orange concrete posts
that runs parallel to Tuskawilla Road. A portion of this fence has already been torn
down and replaced with what is now the Tuscawilla entrance at Trotwood Blvd.
In May 2001 I, along with other residents of Sybilwood Circle, came before the TLBD
Advisory Committee and requested that the fence be removed and replaced with
something more in character with an upscale community like Tuscawilla. We inquired
about extending the present wall at the Trotwood entrance. At the time, the efforts of the
Advisory Committee were being directed toward the construction of the fountains and
wall at the Winter Springs Entrance, and the Committee understandably did not wish to
take on any new projects. We were told at that time by the Committee that "in the future,
we can consider this and probably should consider this" and we were invited to "Walk in
any time, and throw it on the table". Since that meeting, the fence was badly damaged
during the hurricanes last year. In some places all that is left are the orange concrete
posts. I'm sure that everyone here would agree that what remains standing is a detriment
to what is otherwise a beautiful Tuscawilla corridor.
What is troubling about this structure is that, because it is uniform and spans the
length of four residential properties, it is obvious to anyone driving along Tuskawilla
Road that this structure is part of a development. Then, as one approaches the entrance at
Trotwood they realize that the development it belongs to is Tuscawilla. In its current
state, this structure is a poor representation for what we are trying to promote as an
upscale community. It distracts from the other efforts made by this committee to beautify
Tuscawilla. I think we can do better. So I'm here today, along with my neighbors, taking
the advice that this Committee gave us in 2001, and I'm walking in and throwing it on the
table for discussion. What are our options?
