REQUEST: Police Department requests the Commission to approve the purchase of
two (2) in-car camera units from the 2009 Byrne Grant awarded to the city in the amount
of $9,276.
PURPOSE: To seek the consent of the Commission to approve the purchase of these
in-car camera systems.
CONSIDERATIONS: The Winter Springs Police Department takes apro-active stance
in all law enforcement functions, and places special emphasis on traffic enforcement and
the safety of our roadways. Enforcement of criminal traffic laws and the detection and
apprehension DUI offenders is paramount to this goal.
The police department currently has sixteen (16) new in-car camera systems in the road
patrol fleet which were purchased with 2008 Byrne Grant Funds. Further equipping our
fleet with these additional camera systems will not only allow us to continue to detect and
apprehend violators, but will also allow us a greater interface with our current in-car
laptop computer systems.
FUNDING: All funding will come from the 2009 Byrne Grant. There will be no
impact to the current fiscal budget, as this is a reimbursable grant.
RECOMMENDATION: Approve the expenditure of $9,276 from the 2009 Byrne
Grant.
IMPLEMENTATION SCHEDULE: Immediately upon Commission approval.
