Authorization The Parks and Recreation Department is requesting City Commission approval to accept checks from the Senior Resource Fair and "Blast out of the Past" events conducted at the Winter Springs Senior Center. REQUEST: PURPOSE: The purpose of this item is to request that the Commission accept checks in the amount of $526.15 and $375.00, totaling $901.15 for two Senior Center events. CONSIDERATIONS: . The Winter Springs Senior Center has been seeking programs to increase revenue to the City. . A successful Senior Resource Fair event was conducted on April 10, 2008. . A successful "Blast Out of the Past" entertainment program was conducted on May 24, 2008. . Both events donated funding to the City of Winter Springs to go the Senior Center. . Parks and Recreation staff is in the process of seeking more programs to generate revenue and also establishing a policy for these types of revenue generating events at the Senior Center. FUNDING: Total $901.15 to Senior Center revenue Acct # 347505. RECOMMENDATIONS: Parks and Recreation recommends that the City Commission accept the checks to be applied to the Senior Center Account #347505. We had over 40 vendor's displays and over 200 guests attend. It was very successful event due in part to the wonderful reputation that the center has. We actually had several vendors that did in-kind sponsorships which allows us to give the money back to the center. I cannot thank you enough for allowing us to be a part of your community and all of the wonderful services it provides. Susie Coffinan is an invaluable asset to the center. Most of all thank you for providing such a beautiful and safe environment for Winter Springs. Our agreement with the organization presenting this afternoon of entertainment was a 50/50 split. Everyone was pleased with the entertainment provided and our Association appreciates the use of the Senior Center for this occasion. The seniors of this area want to thank you, Mayor Bush, and the members of the Commission who have provided us with this spacious and beautiful building. It is a pleasure to be able to come into such an environment that provides entertainment that is safe and enjoyable for all.
