COMMENTARY;
I am of the opinion that the membCrs of this body are considered by society at large professionals.
?
I am also of the opinion that the conduct displayed during the meeting of May lOth measures up to the
standard.
First, we must find a common ground in order to prevent our Mayor; the Chairman to continue his efforts at
limiting the conunissioners ability to speak on issues that because of its nature call for open discussion
while at the same time keeping in mind that he, as the Chair has a duty to control the meeting and to move
the agenda forward
Other commissioners, who for reasons of their own find it important to be the ones making motions, have
to understand other commissioners on the dais must be given an opportwlity to speak on certain issues.
Conunon and professional courtesy should call for such a rule, since the Sunshine law prevents the
members from discussing the agenda items prior to and after the meeting is called to order.
[ have noticed lately that for reasons beyond my comprehension~ at length over issues being debated
and then proceed to make motions without affording the rest of the commission an opportunity to speak on
the issue.
I believe that each commissioner should be given at least one opportunity to address an issue being debated
Prior to calling the question as per past performances.
The Mayor in turn should always be cognizant of the fact that lights are on indicating a willingness to speak
on an issue and conunissioners anxious to make motions for the sake of being motion makers should
demonstrate courtesy, professionalism and some sort of comradery by permitting those that have not
spoken an opportunity at expressing their views.

The Mayor in his role of leadership as the Chainnan must control his emotions in order to earn the desired
, level of respect from the sitting commissioners. .
His actions of May lOth call for remedial actions in lIte future, [realize that at times some of the actions of
the Commission can be taxing, but a leader does not succumb and give up. By banging Ule gavel, calling
an end to the session in progress and storming out of the hall, you left half of the agenda lmfinishe~ you
denied business people sitting and waiting since 6: 15 PM an opportunity at having their projects discussed,
and such actions tend to injure the people in our city and do not help anyone.
[ will end by stating that Ule very mceting brought about new innovations Ulat could set a dangerous
precedent for the future.
For Ule fLI'st time and at the insistence of the commission Ule public was pennitted to enter into a question
and answer period with the commissioners way past Ule Public input segment.. TIle Mayor could have
prevented this from taking place and [, for one would have supported you. Campaignffig-sfieuld-ffikc-pffice

the expense of others in the future.
I urge this commission to schedule a workshop in order to establish rules that dignify our roles as
representatives of the people and allows us to perform more amicably and smoothly when conducting Ule
business of our City,
Thank you
