It is with great pleasure that the Office of the State Attorney announces the upcoming
National Crime Victims' Rights Week Awards Luncheon. Please mark the date on your
calendar, and join us as we celebrate this 22n`f annual commemoration. invitations will follow in
March.
This year's event will take place on Wednesday, April 16, 2008, at the Heathrow Country
Club. We are honored to announce that the First Lady of Tennessee, Andrea Conte, will join us
as our keynote speaker. Along with her duties as the First Lady, Ms. Conte is the founder and
president of You have the power... Know How to Use It, Inc., anon-profit corporation dedicated
to raising awareness about crime and justice issues. Several of our Assistant State Attorneys
recently heard Ms. Conte present at a seminar and returned to the office urging us to invite her to
speak at the Victims' Rights Week luncheon. We are honored that she has accepted our
invitation.
This year, we are also announcing a new award category, "Outstanding Service Award".
This award will be given to a support staff member of a community program or criminal justice
agency.
Enclosed you will find the nomination forms. The awards are:

• Hugh E. Thomas Law Enforcement Officer of the Year -
Awarded to a law enforcement officer who has distinguished
themselves in service to the community, and by demonstrating a
commitment to preserving the rights of crime victims.

• Victim Advocate of the Year -Awarded to a victim service
professional or volunteer who has distinguished themselves in
service to the community, and by promoting the rights of crime
victims through work or volunteer service.
• Attorney of the Year -Awarded to an attorney who has
distinguished themselves by consistently promoting the rights of
crime victims, and working to ensure that all victims are treated with
fairness, dignity, and respect by our system of justice. This award
includes private, non-profit, and government attorneys.
• Outstanding Service Award -Awarded to a support staff member
of a community program or criminal justice agency who has
distinguished themselves in service to victims by consistently
promoting the rights of crime victims, and working to ensure that all
victims are treated with fairness, dignity and respect.
We urge you to take a moment to nominate those deserving members of your agency.
The deadline for nominations is March 17, 2008.
