RE: Emergency Motor Repair - Tuscawilla Water Plant
On May 6, 1992 the 125 HP variable speed motor for pump ~;l at the
East water plant failed. We have removed the motor and taken it
to Stewart's Electric for a repair estimate. The cost to rebuild
the motor will be $6.759.00 with an eight week turnaround or
$7,970.00 with a four week turnaround. The additional cost for a
shorter turnaround time is due to overtime.
There are three pumps that operate the East distribution system
and a loss of one is a serious problem. If a second pump or
motor fails, the remaining pump would not be sufficient to meet
the demands of the system. We are currently working on
connecting a spare fixed speed motor to the variable speed pump
as an emergency backup and it should be operational by tomorrow.
The motor that failed is approximately 20 years old and is no
longer in production. General Electric has indicted that a
replacement could still be manufactured but they have not yet
given us a price for a new one. We estimate that it will be in
the $12,000 to $15,000 price range.
I am requesting that this be recognized as an emergency and the
normal public bidding procedures be waived. I would also
recommend that the $7,970 repair estimate for a four week
turnaround be approved. These repairs would be funded out of the
renewal and replacement account.
