Brantley Tillis 1120 Erie Ct here as President of the Rotary Club of Winter Springs
The Rotary Club of Winter Springs is a civic organization comprised of community
leaders unified in the ideal of "Service Above Self'. Rotary was founded over 100 years
ago and has grown into a global organization consisting of over 1.2 million members in
33 thousand clubs in 200 countries and geographical areas.
The Object of Rotary is to foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise. Our
local club has been here for over 25 years, and is comprised of over 65 community
leaders who want to help others through "Service Above Self' both locally and globally.
One of the important aspects of Rotary is its partnerships. We have a seat at the United
Nations. We have partnered with the CDC, UNICEF, WHO and the Bill and Melinda
Gates foundation to eradicate polio from the earth. Polio is still crippling children in four
countries today. Additionally, Rotary is working to reduce infant mortality, provide
emergency supplies to disaster victims, and provide opportunities for our youth to live a
better life. There are so many avenues of service that each club provides. (Feel free to
visit Rotary.org to learn more about Rotary.)
Internationally, we support an orphanage in the Ukraine, the supply of emergency shelter
in Myanmar, the Rotary Foundation, and the Gift of Life just to name a few. Locally, our
club supports our local charities, our schools, and our students; college scholarships,
feeding the hungry, supplying bikes for needy kids, shop with a cop, and honoring those
who have served our country though Military Service.
The Winter Springs Veterans & Military Service Memorial is an example of what we can
accomplish when we work together as partners in our community. The Rotary Club of
Winter Springs and the City partnered together 3 years ago with great results! Our
Veterans and Military Service personnel earned that tribute.
Our Rotary Club members accomplish its service efforts in many ways: with the sweat of
our brow and the donation of supplies and raising funds. We raise funds at local events
like the upcoming Rotary Club of Winter Springs Mardi Gras event. With the tough
economic times, we know that charities need help even more today than in the past. So
our members came up with this new and exciting fundraising event.
I believe the upcoming Mardi Gras event in March will be a another example of how our
community benefits when we work together: Government, Civic, and Business
organizations. Our community events can be great when we pool our talents, resources
and abilities. These community components are complementary and synergistic.
So, in conclusion, the Rotary Club of Winter Springs is proud to be part of such a great
community. We plan on supporting the needs of the community through the efforts of our
members as well as partnering with others so we might have a thriving, fun, and
prosperous community for all.
Thank you.
