ROLL CALL: John Hatfield, Chairman, present Cindy Kaehler, Vice-Chairman, present Richard DeFazio, present Robert Smedley, present Taru Joshi, present CITY OFFICIALS: Jacqueline Koch, City Planner Chairman Hatfield mentioned a letter from Seven Eleven. Approval of Minutes of June 22, 1983. Chairman Hatfield commented that the minutes should show Mrs. Kaehler's absence as excused by the Mayor. Inquiry from Smedley. Kaehler had attended all nine of the extra meetings called during the last year over and above the regular schedule. It was decided that the Chairman would confer further with the Mayor on this matter as well as on the Board's previous recommendation to change the code regarding absences. DeFazio moved to approve the minutes of June 22, 1983. Seconded by Joshi. Vote: All aye. Motion carried. The City Planner advised that the next meeting will begin the new term of the Board. An organizational meeting will precede the regular meeting to hold elections of officers and decide on meeting schedules and procedures. Regular meeting adjourned at 8:05 PM. WORKSHOP The Board continued its review of the draft of the new commercial zoning code. Discussion of the differences between Local and General Commercial zones. These distinctions preserve the current Code's philosophy that commercial lands near residential area be limited to businesses that provide goods and services frequently needed by residents, and that general businesses and high activity businesses should be located in commercial districts distant from homes. Discussion on why C-G(X) businesses cannot be grouped with C-LI uses due to their need for visibility from the road that some C-LI lands do not have. Discussion of one-year grace period to develop with uses presently allowed in zones C-l and C-2 after any new ordinance is adopted. Although currently allowed uses would be permissible, site development would be in accordance with new standards. The Board will conclude its review of the draft ordinance on July 20 and will prepare a map proposing the locations of the five commercial zones. Respectfully submitted, x::;!~;K-L City Planner ""---
