CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order at 8:19 a.m., Wednesday, November 12, 1997, by Chairman Mel Glickman in the Municipal Building (City Hall, 1126 East State Road 434, Winter Springs, Florida). 2. ROLL CALL Sally McGinnis, present Roger Owen, present Walt Dittmer, present Bill Hatfield, absent Mel Glickman, Chairman, present ALSO PRESENT Charles C. Carrington, AICP Community Development Coordinator Tom Grimms, AICP Comprehensive Planning/Zoning Coordinator 3. APPROVAL OF THE OCTOBER S. 1997 REGULAR MEETING MINUTES Chairman Glickman accepted the minutes as read. 4. REVIEW PREPARATIONS FOR THE JANUARY 14. 1995'COMMERCE & INDUSTRY BOARD ANNUAL BUSINESS BREAKFAST Chairman Glickman stated that he had spoken to Mayor Partyka about the upcoming business breakfast and Mayor Partyka thought that it would be an excellent opportunity to give a "State of the City" address. Also discussed would be the State Road 434 Visioning Project and Chairman Glickman hoped that Charles Carrington and Tom Grimms would be in attendance at the breakfast, especially to answer any questions about this project. Chairman Glickman confirmed with the Deputy City Clerk that the room, (at the Senior Center), had been reserved. The menu items were then reviewed - the menu will include coffee, juice, danish, and fruit. The set-up of the tables was then discussed, with cloth tablecloths preferred (if monetarily feasible). Sally McGinnis mentioned that the previous breakfast had a flower on each table, which was a nice touch, and hoped that it could be done again. Ms. McGinnis stated that the Senior Center most likely had vases that we could use. MINUTES COMMERCE & INDUSTRY BOARD NOVEMBER 12 , 1997 - REGUlAR MEETING Page 2 of2 It was also confirmed that the Commissioners would be introduced, and this breakfast would be a great place to formally introduce to the community the City's newly elected Commissioners, Mr. Edward Martinez, Jr. And Mr. Robert S. Miller; Mr. Brook Seall, the new Parks and Recreation Director; and Chief Dan Kerr, the new Chief of Police. Roger Owen asked if the Suburban Reporter from the Orlando Sentinel had been invited, and Chairman Glickman confirmed that all of the media would be invited and that he would take care of inviting the area television stations. Chairman Glickman mentioned that on November 4, 1997 he read a newspaper item that mentioned that the Greater Seminole County Chamber of Commerce's Economic Development Task Force would have its Third Annual Red Carpet Reception the next day in Lake Mary at the AAA Headquarters. The newspaper item mentioned that officials from each area City would have presentations by city representatives. Chairman Glickman asked Charles Carrington and Tom Grimms if they were aware of this meeting, and if our City was represented. Tom Grimms stated that "Charles Carrington' developed a presentation and the Mayor gave it - and I'll tell you, the Mayor is a natural for these things". Mr. Grimms stated that the Commerce and Industry Board would be notified of similar events that are forthcoming. Further discussion about this event continued. Tom Grimms then gave a presentation about the current status of the City's proposed "Town Center". Charles Carrington further elaborated on some of the many involved steps involved in this endeavor. Also discussed was the new Overlay District, the GreeneWay Commercial District, the Winn-DixielLefiler property, and the City's impact fu~. . 5. PREPARE MAILING FOR THE COMMERCE & INDUSTRY BOARD ANNUAL BUSINESS BREAKFAST The invitations/envelopes were all taken care of ("stuffed") after the meeting was adjourned. 6. FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS 1. Introduce the two newly elected City Commissioners, (Edward Martinez, Jr. And Robert S. Miller) to the Board. 7.
