Authorization
REQUEST: Public Works Department Informing the City Commission of the Status of
the Trotwood BoulevardlTuskawilla Road Traffic Signal
PURPOSE: The purpose of this Board item is to inform the City Commission of the Status of
the Oak Forest HOA's Request Relative to the Traffic signal at Trotwood
Boulevard
CONSIDERATIONS:
At the November 22nd City Commission meeting, a representative of the Oak
Forest Homeowners Association complained about the traffic delays at the Trotwood
Boulevard/Tuskawilla Road intersection during morning school drop-off's. Attached is a
letter transmitted to the County Traffic Engineer on behalf of the Mayor and City
Commissioners requesting the County add directional turn signals to the new traffic
signals that are to be installed as part of the Tuskawilla Road construction. The County
has indicated that they would review and have recommendations on this matter in 30 to 45
days. We will advise the Commission of their recommendations when received.
Additionally, the City Manager has instructed the Police Department to work out
an overtime arrangement to provide temporary off'duty officers until such time that a
better solution can be realized.

Robert B. Zaitooni, P.E., County Traffic Engineer
REFERENCE:
Trotwood Boulevard at Tuskawilla Road
Dear Mr. Zaitooni:
This letter is on behalf of the Mayor and City Commissioners who have directed staff to
request that the County provide a directional signal for eastbound and westbound traffic on
Trotwood Boulevard at Tuskawilla Road. The request is based on input from City technical
and public safety staff as well as the affected residents.
It is my understanding from Mark Bevis that the County several years ago reviewed this
intersection based on complaints at that time. The solution was to provide a "leading left"
for westbound Trotwood Boulevard traffic which has solved that problem. Unfortunately,
eastbound Trotwood Boulevard traffic turning left is dependent upon right turning westbound
traffic to voluntarily yield, which is apparently the exception. During school related peak
traffic times, eastbound traffic may require four or five cycles to proceed through the
intersection.
There is currently a dedicated left signal for westbound traffic on Trotwood Boulevard, which
does not appear to be replaced as part of the proposed Tuskawilla Road Signalization
Construction plans. We are requesting that the signalization construction plans for this
intersection be reviewed and that dedicated left turn signals be added for eastbound and
westbound traffic on Trotwood Boulevard.
We look forward to meeting with you to discuss your findings. If you have any questions,
please feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,
t!Li!iPE
