REQUEST: The Parks and Recreation department wishes to inform the commission that
it plans to conduct its winter, spring and fall recreation programs and
classes at the Sunshine Park Civic Center and Trotwood Park.
PURPOSE: The purpose of this agenda item is to inform the commission that the Parks
and Recreation will conduct its winter, spring and fall programs and classes
at the Sunshine Park Civic Center and at Trotwood Park.
CONSIDERA TIONS:
· The Winter Springs Parks and Recreation Department successfully conducted a fall
recreation program and classes.
· The Cities of Oviedo, Sanford, Lake Mary, Casselberry, Maitland and Altamonte
Springs offer winter, spring and fall programs and classes in available City buildings.
· The Winter Springs Civic Center and Trotwood Park tennis courts are available to
schedule such programs and classes.
· Programs and classes can be offered to the public by contracted instructors with them
receiving 80% of the class revenues and the City of Winter Springs receiving 20% of
the class revenues.
· Current Parks and Recreation Staff can do the promotion, fee collection and building
supervision within existing duties and budget.

· Programs and class fees will be set at $2.00 to $10.00 per class depending on instructor
qualifications, equipment provided, projected class size and number of classes offered
per program.
. All program registrations who are not residents of the City of Winter Springs are to
pay an additional $5.00 fee per class.

IMPLEMENTATION SCHEDULE:
November 24,1999 Begin to schedule exact class dates, times, and fees.
December 1, 1999 Begin Promotion for winter program.
January 10, 2000 Winter program/classes begin.
Continue cycle for spring (March) and fall (September) classes.

Proposed Youth and Adult Programs
8 Week Programs
Winter, Spring, & Fall
Location:
Winter Springs Civic Center
~ Karate
2 days a week (youth class) Wednesdays and Fridays 5:30pm- 6:15pm and 6:30pm- 7:15pm
Emphasis is placed on the total development of the student. Increased confidence, strength,
coordination, flexibility, self-esteem. Promotes healthy spirit, mind and body.
Cost: $55.001 person + $30.00 for uniform
~ Yoga
1 day a week (adult class) Tuesdays 5:15pm- 6:00pm
Yoga is a relaxing exercise that enables participants to purely concentrate on the mind, body, and soul.
Elissa Maguire, a certified hatha yoga instructor, will teach and explain the benefits of yoga.
Cost: $35.001 person
~ Tai Chi
1 day a week (adult class) Wednesdays 12:15pm- 1:00pm
Tai Chi offers a revitalization of the mind and body. This popular exercise strengthens the body,
increases longevity, and reduces stress. Tai Chi also increases stamina and improves balance and
coordination. Elissa Maguire, a certified instructor, will introduce, teach, and explain to participants the
benefits of tai chi.
Cost: $35.001 person
~ Jazzercise
3 days a week (adult class) Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays 6:15am- 7:15am
Jazzercise is a heart-pumping, blood-racing, and moderately paced form of exercise. Joy Sawh, a
certified jazzercise instructor, will encourage participants to exercise properly, increase their heart rate,
burn calories, and build muscle.
Cost: $45.00/ person $40.00 City employees
~ Gymnastics
1 day a week (ages 6 and up) Mondays- Beginners 4pm-4:50pm or Tuesdays 4pm- 4:50pm
Mondays- Intermediatel Advanced 5pm-5:50pm
Gymnastics is an exciting form of exercise that incorporates fitness and flexibility. Jeremy Dukes, a
certified instructor, will teach young children the basics of the gym such as stretching and floor
exercises as well as introduce equipment such as the balance beam and trampoline.
Cost: First class is free! $30.00 for 7 classes
~ Cheerleading
1 day a week (youth class) Mondays 6pm- 6:50pm(Beginners) 7pm-7:50pm(Advanced)
Cheerleading is a fun sport that allows children to learn cheers, chants, jumps, and exercises. Jeremy
Dukes, an experienced instructor will teach young participants the basics of cheerleading.
Cost: first class is free! $30.00 for 7 classes
~ All Star Cheerleading
2 days a week (youth class) Tuesdays and Thursdays 6:15pm- 8:15pm

~ Ballroom Dancing
Sundays (adult class) 7:00pm- 8:00pm
Ballroom dancing is an elegant, graceful, and unique form of dance. Dr. Martha Lyle, a professional
instructor, will teach adults participants the basic steps and techniques of ballroom dance.
Cost: 45.00/ person
~ Clogging
1 day a week (youth and adult class) Fridays 7:00pm- 8:00pm
Clogging is an interesting form of dance that involves endurance and talent. Ed Anderson, a
professional instructor and member of The Orlando Cloggers, will teach participants the basic steps and
techniques of clogging.
Cost: $21.00 per person

Trotwood Park Tennis Courts
~ Tennis
1 day a week (youth class) Tuesdays 4:30pm-5:30pm- ages 5-8/ 5:30pm- 6:30pm- ages 9-14
Tennis is a fun sport that requires strength, agility, and hand/eye coordination. Jeff Bobbit, a certified
USPT instructor, will teach children between the ages of 5 through 14 the steps and techniques of
tennis.
Cost: $49.00 per person
~ Tennis
1 day a week (adult class) Thursdays 5:15pm-6:15pm- Beginners/ 6:15pm-7:15pm- Advanced
Tennis is a fun sport that requires strength, agility, and hand/eye coordination. Jeff Bobbit, a certified
USPT instructor, will teach adults the steps and techniques of tennis.
Cost: $49.00 per person
