DEVELOPMENT BOARD
THURSDAY, JULY 13, 1989
The Winter Springs Commerce and Industry Development Board Meeting was called to
order by Chairman Ruth Smith at 4:00 P.M..
ROLL CALL:
Mayor Leanne M. Grove, Present
City Manager, Richard Rozansky, Present
Chairman Ruth Smith, Present
Tom Binford, Present
Jim Cooper, Absent
Alan Fickett, Absent
Jon Hall, Absent
The minutes of the June 8, 1989 meeting were approved.
Mr. Rozansky suggested that the Board receive a copy of the minutes of the Planning
and Zoning Board in order to know what they have done, then no one will have to
attend the meetings. Chairman Smith suggested writing a letter to the Board. The
Commerce and Industry Board now has their own stationery.
Chairman Smith said that she had discussed with Ken Abraham of Creative Publishing,
getting quotes for a cover for the brochure. She brought a Seminole County School
Board brochure to show as a sample of a very attractive brochure. The brochure was
discussed.
.
Mr. Rozansky said that he felt that the job of the Planning and Zoning Board is to
determine the land use, and the job of this Board is to promote commercial land after
we get the brochure.
Chairman Smith said that she asked Rick Tash of the Economic Development Commission
of Mid Florida if it would be possible to have a meeting there to see what they're
doing. She said that he would give us what businesses are looking for and expect
when they come into an area, and also what the area can give to the industry. If
they have already done some of the work that we need, then we won't have to take the
time to do it. She told Mr. Tash that the next meeting would be August 10, and he
said he could make it anytime the Board wanted it.
Chairman Smith spoke of AAA's coming here. She said they are predicting seven to
ten thousand people here within the next five years.
Mr. Binford said that Congress passed a law allocating so many Industrial Development
Bonds per state, and the state would allocate so many per county. He suggested
checking out how much allocation we have left, so that if a company comes in, they
may be able to be financed with tax free bonds.
Chairman Smith said she feels that Winter Springs will be a major influence and
recipient of the benefits of the Sanford Airport.
Chairman Smith said she would call the members of the Board concerning the time of
the next meeting at the Economic Development Commission of Mid Florida. She said
. the best time would be mid to late morning.
