PUBLIC HEARING

Meeting
MGR V IDEPT~
Authorization
REQUEST: Police Department requesting the Commission to give approval to allow
residents on George Street to park on the easement between George Street and State
Route 419.
PURPOSE: To inform and seek the consent of the Commission to change City Policy,
and allow residents of George Street to park their vehicles on the City easement located
between George Street and State Route 419.
CONSIDERATIONS: Requests have been made by City residents to allow
parking on the grass easement between George Street and State Route 419 to alleviate the
parking problems in the area. Because this neighborhood is one of the oldest residential
areas in the city, the configuration of the right-of-ways do not accommodate the multi
vehicle families of today. The street/sidewalk design on George Street creates an even
greater problem than other areas of the city. A change in City Policy would officially give
residents permission to park on the grass easement. Residents would no longer have to
park second vehicles on the sidewalk to comply with the City Ordinance that prohibits
parking on the street. Parking on the sidewalk is also a violation of City Ordinance.
A request was also made to pave an area of the easement to enhance the parking surface.
However, it does not appear to be a cost effective measure at this time. Upon
Commission approval of this item the Police Department would notify residents of
George Street regarding the ability to park vehicles on the easement.
FUNDING: None, no requirement for expenditure of city funds.
RECOMMENDATION: Approve the policy change that would allow the residents
to park on the easement.
IMPLEMENTATION SCHEDULE:
Immectiately upon approval by Commission.
