HomeMy WebLinkAbout1996 12 03 Beautification of Winter Springs Board Regular Minutes MINUTES BEAUTIFICA TION OF WINTER SPRINGS BOARD DECEMBER 3, 1996 -- SPECIAL MEETING 1. Call to Order Vice-Chairperson Dickinson called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. in the conference room, Municipal Building. 2. Roll Call Also Present Russ Robbins, present Ethel Beecher, present Darline Cook, present Carol Morrison, present John Herbert, present Dawna Ferguson, present Marilyn Dickinson, present Paul Partyka, Mayor Don Wilson, Parks and Recreation Director Alan Hill, P.W. Operations Supervisor Tom Brown, former B.O.W.S. Board member 3. Holidav Event Morrison thanked everyone for their help in preparing for the holiday event. Mayor Partyka said the advertising is in place. Morrison explained that the ceremony will start at 5 p.m. with music, then at 5:15 p.m. introductions will begin, and the lights to the tree will be switched on following the introductions. Wilson said that they have made a light switch with a 4' x 8' piece of plywood, and the lighting will be radio controlled. Discussion about a collapsable tree for next year's event. Beecher suggested lighting up the trees in front of city hall. Wilson said that after the holidays are over, the intention is to recognize all involved with the event at a Commission meeting. Dickinson suggested sending thank you letters to those who contributed. The members agreed that they would like to have the band play first. Mayor Partyka said he will announce the tree lighting ceremony throughout the day. Discussion about table covers for the refreshments, and the girl scouts serving the refreshments. Wilson asked Beecher to call Tim at Albertsons (Tuscawilla), and let him know someone from the Parks department will be picking up the cider between 10 a.m. and II a.m., Friday morning. Mayor Partyka said that Burger King or McDonalds will donate cups. Once the tree is moved to the pond next to the post office, the generator will have to be hauled away each night. The tree will be lit from dusk to 9 p.m. until probably the first weekend in January. Hill told Wilson that the Public Works department will be insect spraying the park on Thursday evening, and again on Saturday morning around 4 a.m. MINUTES BEAUTIFICATION OF WINTER SPRINGS BOARD DECEMBER 3, 1996 -- SPECIAL MEETING PAGE20F 2 Beecher mentioned that Oviedo was having their tree lighting Thursday night, 5:30 - 7:30 p.m., and the members thought it would be a good idea to see their ceremony. The members decided to meet tomorrow night (Wednesday) at 6:30 p.m. in the park for the test run of the tree lighting. Mayor Partyka commented that he would like the city to continue to do the best. Ex: The tree lighting cereomony--Let's learn from the other cities, and make ours better. He said this is the attitude we need to install in everything we do. The members said they would wear something festive-red or green the evening of the ceremony. 4.
