Grants - Master Plan: /--- Meta explained the FDOT grant application package received from FDOT Highway Beautification Counsel, Staff Coordinator, Mr. Henry. This package deals with beautification of state roads - irrigation, right-of-ways, sidewalks, etc. Dollar amounts are calculated on a 50-50 basis; the City paying half and FDOT matching that amount, with the exception of design work. Volunteers, plants, etc. may be included towards Winter Springs' 50% dollar amount, which is why Meta suggested coordinating the BOWS Week with a grant, once a Winter Springs grant is awarded. The FDOT annual grant application cut-off date is February 1. Awards are presented in June, and the agreements are finalized 90 days later, (approximately October 1). Mr. Henry suggested submitting grant applications one year prior to state road projects. Meta will contact the City Planner and Jim Collins, FDOT-Deland Maintenance, regarding state road expansion plans. Mr. Collins, will refer the BOWS Board to a local maintenance person. Denny will attempt to enlist a voluntary design person. The median strip on 419/434 was mentioned as one of many possible grant sites.
