BEAUTIFICATION OF WINTER SPRINGS BOARD MEETING May 13, 1992 The BOWS Board was called to order by Chairman Carl Stephens. BOARD MEMBERS: Chairman Carl Stephens, present Terri Meta, present Jean Jacobs, present Jackie Adams, present Jesse Grantham, present Gladys Zahand, present Approval of Minutes of April 8, 1992 Jacobs motioned to approve the minutes of April 8, 1992. Seconded by Adams. Vote: all aye. Motion carried. Chairman Stephens informed the members that Diane Brown had resigned from the BOWS Board. Regarding the Auto Body Specialist sign near the Central Winds Park, Meta r- stated that the sign met with City Code and that it was not on City property. It was decided to review Mr. Roebling's letter to the Beautification Board at the June 10th meeting. Meta motioned to accept the wording of Signs, in the Project section of the Master Plan Outline. Seconded by Adams. Vote: all aye. Motion carried. Listed below were changes/additions made to the BOWS Master Plan Outline: (Section VIII) - PROJECTS - A.1 Signs- A contest for best "standard designed sign" would be devised to come up with an attractive, uniform sign for the City of Winter Springs. The contest would be open only to residents of Winter Springs and the winner would be selected by the Beautification Board. The criteria used to select the "winning" sign would include design, appearance and wording. The winner would receive an award, to be determined at a later date. The sign selected would then be adopted by the City as its "trademark" and be placed at the entrances into the City as well as in other strategic areas. r- r BOWS Board Minutes May 13. 1992 Page 2 A.4 Most "improved" Residence/Business - The award for most "improved" residence/business, would coincide with Arbor Day and Beautification of Winter Springs Week, and advertised in the Winter Springs Bulletin. The winner(s) would each receive: a. Proclamation signed by the Mayor; and b. Mention and photograph of the winning residence/business areas displayed in the Winter Springs Bulletin. E. Tree Program - Utilize the Tree Program as the kick-off to proclaim "Beautification of Winter Springs Week". This can be accomplished with the purchase of seedlings from the Forrestry Department of Seminole County and distributing, without charge, to Winter Springs organizations/groups/individuals, for planting in Winter Springs. Winners will be selected by the Beautification Board. ,.-... F.3 School Clean-up Day - (To be followed up by Jacobs.) Grantham suggested, for beautification purposes, burying the telephone and power lines. Adams questioned the City's purpose for recently installing the unattractive 4 foot sections of telephone poles located at Murphy, Edgemon and Moss Roads, as they are not chained off to prevent traffic from driving through.
