HomeMy WebLinkAbout1990 03 14 Beautification of Winter Springs Board Regular Minutes ~ BEAUTIFICATION OF WINTER SPRINGS BOARD MEETING WEDNESDAY, MARCH 14, 1990 The BOWS Board was called to order by Chairman Carl Stephens at 7:00 P.M.. ROLL CALL: Chairman Carl Stephens, present Vice-Chairman Cindy Gennell, absent James Gray, present Jesse Grantham, present Susan Reid, present Diane Brown, present Richard Allen, present Mrs. Brown made a motion to approve the minutes of the February 14, 1990 meeting. Mr. Grantham seconded the motion. All ayes. Motion carried. ~ Mrs. Nancy MacNamara and Mr. Tom McDowell, new Principal of Winter Springs Elementary School, were introduced. Mr. McDowell explained what he has done to improve the appear- ance and cleanliness of the school thus far. The building is being cleaned and will be painted. The sprinkler system is being used. Trash is being picked up, and the grounds mowed. Mr. McDowell has met with a landscaping committee, and has written to the parents about the needs of the school. He got a very good response from them. He said he would like to put split rail fencing in front and by the driveway in order to keep cars from driving into the park. Mr. Mike Martin, City Forester, has said he will help plant trees, etc.. There was discussion about moving the chain link fence back. Mr. McDowell said he didn't mind moving it back, but he wants to be sure that if it is moved back and something is planted there, the planting will survive. Discussion. Mrs. MacNamara said the School Board has a maintenance crew that will come out and mulch and plant, etc.. Mr. McDowell is going to meet with the School Board committee next Monday. Tree planting was discussed. Mrs. MacNamara said they would keep the Board informed of whats going on. Mrs. Brown volunteered to meet with Mr. McDowell to go over the school grounds. Mr. Stephens said he will call Jackie Koch, City Planner, concerning ownership of the property on 434. Discussion. Mr. Stephens said that the Arbor Day letters to the Homeowners Associations should be returning to the City Hall about April 2. The official ceremony is on April 27 at 3:30 P.M.. The lists of things to be done were discussed. On list number 2, cars for sale in people's yards and on the side of the road, dumpsters located in front of buildings, Fairfax corner across from Public Works, and the elementary school, were discussed. The yard at Public Works and three apartment buildings on Moss Road which are in bad condition were also discussed. Mrs. Reid said she would ask the City Attorney, Frank Kruppenbacher, if we as a Board can report violations in the line of beautification, to a Board as a Board, or do we have to report them as individuals. Mr. Stephens said the agenda for the next meeting will be Mr. Rozansky's visit concerning code enforcement, a possible second visit by Mr. McDowell, reviewing of applications for Arbor Day, formulation of list number 3, and the ownership of the property on 434. ~ The Master Plan was discussed.
