Home My WebLink About1998 01 12 Consent Item D COMMISSION AGENDA ITEM 0 Regular Consent X Informational January 12, 1998 Meeting MGR ~ DEPT Authorization REQUEST: City Manager requesting City Commission authorization to award a flooring bid to install new carpeting, vinyl flooring, and vinyl baseboard in City Hall. - PURPOSE: The purpose of the agenda item is for the City Commission to authorize the award of a flooring bid to install new carpeting, vinyl flooring, and vinyl baseboard in City Hall at a cost of $42,213, plus a 10% contingency. CONSIDERATIONS: The City Commission budgeted funds to renovate the interior of City Hall. The interior renovations included construction of wall partitions, new carpeting, vinyl flooring, vinyl baseboard, repainting inside City Hall, refurbishing certain office furniture and reupholstering of certain office chairs. Bids for the new carpeting, vinyl flooring and vinyl baseboard was opened on December 10, 1997. Six bids were received, evaluated, and references were contacted. FUNDING: There are funds in the FY 97/98 budget. RECOMMENDA TIONS: City Manager recommending the Commission authorize the award of a flooring bid to Shaw Contract Flooring Service in the amount of $42,213, plus a 10% contingency. IMPLEMENTATION: Commission Chamber/Lobby Within 30 days of Commission approval. East Wing Within 60 days of Commission approval. West Wing Within 90 days of Commission approval. Drago, Administrative Assistamj) Date: December 22, 1997 Re: Flooring Bids As you are aware, the city recently opened bids for new flooring in City Hall. Attached is a tabulation summary of the bids. Shaw Contract Flooring Services was the lowest responsible bidder at a cost of $42,213. The specifications from Architect Design Group called for a border in the commission chambers and two conference rooms. Due to the type of carpet specified to be used as the border, and the locations of the border at entrances of doorways, the wearability will not be as good as the primary carpet and it will show. I called the following references for Shaw Contract Flooring Services: Reference Comments Orange County Convention Center Kris Eskelin 407 -248-5700 Awarded a $1.5 million carpet contract. All custom made carpeting. Installed 9,000 square feet between Nov. 96 - Jan. 97. Completed contract in June 1997. Awarded $200,000 additional work after June 1997. Would use them again. Flooring Bids December 22, 1997 References Comments Brevard County School Board Richard Barnes 407-633-3602 Ext. 174 Awarded a $150,000 contract to install carpeting in 8 schools. Company is very good and the school board was very pleased. Gray, Harris and Robinson, P.A. Sharon Demetree 407-843-2636 Installation went well, no problems. The Grand Floridian Hotel Mark Hescter 407 -824-2636 Did $30,000 in work, received an additional $8,000. No problems, would use again. Disney Yacht and Beach Club Dave Ellis 407 -828-3556 Used from 1988 to present on a continuous basis. No problems. I did not discover any material facts from the references that would indicate that Shaw could not fulfill the bid requirements to the satisfaction of the city. Therefore, I am recommending that the city award the bid to Shaw Contract Flooring Services in the amount of $42,213, and that the border be omitted from the commission chambers and two conference rooms.
