HomeMy WebLinkAbout1997 08 11 Informational Item C COMMISSION AGENDA ITEM C ADD ON REGULAR CONSENT INFORMATIONAL X August 11, 1997 Meeting REQUEST: Land Development Coordinator presenting to the Commission for informational purposes, the purpose of purchasing approximately $11,800.00 of the City's allocated $35,600.75 from the 1996-97 Recycling & Education Grant Funds for playground equipment. PURPOSE: The purpose of this Agenda Item is to inform the Commission that the City has received verbal permission from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection to expend approximately $11,800.00 of allocated grant funds for the purchase of playground equipment constructed of recycled materials. This is in addition to that presented in Informational Agenda Item B on this agenda. CONSIDERATIONS: 1.) Seminole County was provided $449,472.00 from the State funded Recycling and Education Grant Funds for the FY 1996-97. The City's share of this funding is $35,600.75. 2.) The City has, in this fiscal year, expended $5,725.00 of these grant funds for a concrete breaker. Informational Agenda Item B is requesting approval for the expenditure of another $16,000 (plus shipping), and this item is requesting approval for another $11,800. Provided that these two (2) requests are authorized, the City would expend approximately $34,523.00 of the allocated funds. In the past, the City has purchased such items as recycling bins, a chipper/shredder, a bucket truck, etc. 3.) The City proposes to purchase playground equipment for use in the park(s) located in the City. This equipment is for the 5 to 12 year old age group. August 11, 1997 Add On Informational Agenda Item C Page 2 4) This playground equipment must be ordered, delivered and paid prior to September 30, ] 997. 5) The only stipulation imposed by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection is that there be a sign identifying the equipment as being made from recycled material. FUNDING: The initial funding would be from the General Funds and these funds would be replaced when the City is reimbursed for the cost of the equipment. Aspreviously discussed, the City was not prepared to expend these funds on a quarterly basis and the request was that the funds allocated to the City be held for expenditures at a later date. To Date, the City has been authorized to expend approximately $22,725 for a concrete breaker and recycled wheel stops. The City is presently desirous of purchasing Gametime playground equipment for use in the public parks located within the City (please see attached correspondence). The City will have a sign(s) at the location of this playground equipment identifYing it as being constructed with recycled material.
