HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 2008-27 Fire ConsolidationRESOLUTION N0.2008-27 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF WINTER SPRINGS FLORIDA, INDICATING ITS INTENT TO CONSOLIDATE FIRE SERVICES WITH SEMINOLE COUNTY CONTINGENT UPON SUCCESSFUL NEGOTIATIONS OF AN INTERLOCAL AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE CITY OF WINTER SPRINGS AND SEMINOLE COUNTY; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, economic conditions are making it progressively more difficult for the City to fund the level of fire and emergency medical services that our residents desire, and WHEREAS, the consolidation of the Winter Springs' Fire Department with the Seminole County Fire Department appears to provide a more efficient method of continuing the current level of fire and emergency medical services the residents of the City currently enjoy, and the long term stabilization of the cost of fire and emergency medical services provided to Winter Springs' residents, and WHEREAS, the City Commission recognizes that the City of Altamonte Springs has previously successfully consolidated its fire department with Seminole County and that a similar consolidation in Winter Springs may be beneficial to Winter Springs and Seminole County. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF WINTER SPRINGS, that the City intends to pursue consolidation of fire and emergency medical services under the authority of Seminole County, subject to negotiating an interlocal agreement mutually acceptable to the City and the County. NOW, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT THE CITY shall expedite and prepare a draft interlocal agreement to present to Seminole County no later than fifteen (15) days from the adoption of this Resolution. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon adoption DONE AND ADOPTED by the City Commission of the City of Winter Springs, Florida, on this the 2151 day of May, 2008. J N F.
