HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 662 Operation Desert Storm RESOLUTION NO. 662 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF WINTER SPRINGS, FLORIDA, PROVIDING FOR THE RELEASE OF THE FINANCIAL OBLIGATIONS OF CERTAIN MEMBERS OF THE UNITED STATES ARMED FORCES TO PAY FOR CITY WATER AND SEWER SERVICES DURING THE PERSIAN GULF CRISES KNOWN AS "OPERATION DESERT STORM"; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS; AND EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City commission for the City of Winter Springs, Florida, has determined that certain citizens within the City limits have been called to active duty by the United States for service in the military during "OPERATION DESERT STORM", and WHEREAS, the City Commission has determined that said service may have created financial hardships for those citizens and their families; NOW THEREORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION, FOR THE CITY OF WINTER SPRINGS, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: 1. That those citizens of the City of winter Springs, Florida, who were heads of households or spouses of heads of households, who were called into full-time active military service for "Operation Desert Storm", shall be released from their household's obligations to pay water and sewer service bills from the City from this date to the date of their return from active duty or December 31, 1991, whichever date is sooner. 2. That in the event there is any legal challenge to this resolution or it is determined that the release would have a negative impact on any financial obligation of the City, then the release shall be void and the City shall pay for said utility services from its general fund until the date of the individual's release from active duty or December 31, 1991, whichever date is sooner. 3. That this resolution shall take effect immediately upon its passage. Mayor City of Winter Springs, Florida ATTEST: City Clerk Mary T.
