HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 593 Senior Center RESOLUTION 593 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF WINTER SPRINGS, FLORIDA, ASSURING ITS FULL COMMITMENT INCLUDING SUPPLEMEMTAL FUNDING, TO THE SUCCESS OF A COMMUNITY SENIOR CITIZENS CENTER IF COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT FUNDS ARE GRANTED TO THIS MUNICIPALITY FOR THIS PURPOSE. WHEREAS, the cities and unincorporated area of Seminole County have attained sufficient population for entitlement as an urban county; and WHEREAS, pursuant to this qualification Community Development Block Grant funds have been allocated to the cumulative jurisdictions of Seminole County for the third year of the current entitlement period; and WHEREAS, Seminole County government, as coordinator of the grant program, has asked for certain assurances from the City of Winter Springs regarding a proposal by the municipality for an allocation from the 1988-89 funds to construct and equip a community senior citizens center in the City; and WHEREAS, the governing body of the City wishes to express its whole- hearted commitment to the success of the proposal. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF WINTER SPRINGS, FLORIDA, THAT: SECTION I - The City will contribute the land for the site of the senior center, property either already owned by the City or acquired specifically for this purpose. SECTION II - A structure to house the center will be designed within the constraints of the proposed project budget. Construction and equipping of the facility by grant funds will be augmented as necessary by City funds and, if forthcoming, by private sector participation to contribute to the project. SECTION III - Adequate funds will be budgeted annually by the City for maintenance, utility costs and insurance to perpetuate the availability of the center for activities to benefit senior citizens. SECTION IV - The vehicle proposed to be funded for transport of seniors to and from the facility will be operated, insured, and maintained through funds budgeted annually or acquired by the City. SECTION V - The City of Winter Springs pledges to use both the facility and the vehicle extensively and responsibly to the utmost benefit of the senior citizens, to whom they are dedicated. SECTION VI - This resolution shall remain in force and effect until supplemented, amended, repealed or otherwise altered. SECTION VII - All resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict with this resolution are hereby repealed. SECTION VIII - This resolution shall take immediate effect upon its passage and adoption.
