RESOLUTION NO. 437
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF WINTER SPRINGS, FLORIDA,
STATING ITS POLICY OF EQUAL OPPORTUNITY FOR
HANDICAPPED INDIVIDUALS.
WHEREAS, the City of Winter Springs is recipient of Federal
Revenue Sharing monies, and
WHEREAS, these funds are derived from tax revenues to which all
sectors of society contribute, and
WHEREAS, the Government of the United States of America wishes
to assure to all citizens equal benefit from such revenues regardless of
handicapped status, as required by Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act
of 1973, and
WHEREAS, the City of Winter Springs wholeheartedly adopts this
policy.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF WINTER SPRINGS, FLORIDA, THAT:
SECTION I - The City of Winter Springs shall fully comply with
the requirements of Part 51 of the Federal Revenue Sharing Act.
SECTION II - The City of Winter Springs commits itself to provide
to its handicapped citizens all of its public services, programs, and
facilities in a supportive manner which accommodates their particular cir-
cUffistances, so that they may participate fully in civic life and benefit
equally from the municipal resources to which they contribute, To present
personnel and prospective applicants for staff positions, the City pledges
the same opportunities regardless of physical or mental impairment, to be
gainfully employed to the greatest extent of their capabilities in a work
environment adapted to their limitations,
SECTION III - With the support of the elected officials of the City,
Winter Springs publishes this pronouncement of equal opportunity to the
handicapped and designates its administrative staff to implement and coordinate
this policy. All inquiries, comments, and suggestions from handicapped
individuals and their advocates are welcome to be submitted to the City
Manager, 400 North Edgemon Ave., Winter Springs, Florida 32708, Area Code
305-327-1800.
SECTION IV - With the assistance of such counsel, by October,
1984, the City shall prepare a self-evaluation and transition plan to
overcome any obstacles that may presently exist to the opportunity of
handicapped individuals to enjoy and to participate in the services and
functions of municipal government.
SECTION V - This resolution shall remain in force until supple-
mented, amended, repealed or otherwise altered.
SECTION VI- All resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict
with this resolution are hereby repealed.
SECTION VII- This resolution shall take immediate effect upon its
passage and approval.
