HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance 79 Qualifications/Elections ORDINANCE NO. 79 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF WINTER SPRINGS, FLORIDA, PROVIDING QUALIFICATIONS FOR ELECTIONS HELD BY THE CITY; ESTABLISHING A FILING FEE; PROVIDING FOR A PETITION PRIOR TO QUALIFYING; PROVIDING QUALIFYING PERIOD; ESTABLISHING A FORM OF BALLOT; ESTABLISHING A QUALIFICATION FOR ELECTIVE OFFICE; REPEALING CONFLICTS; SEVERABILITY AND EFFECTIVE DATE. THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WINTER SPRINGS, FLORIDA, HEREBY ORDAINS SECTION 1: QUALIFICATION FOR ELECTIVE OFFICE. Any qualified voters of the City, who have been a resident of the City for a period of six months next preceding the date of qualification and are registered to vote in the City, are qualified to be a member of the City Council or Mayor, and may be a candidate for such office. SECTION 2: Each candidate seeking the office of CITY COUNCILMAN or MAYOR or any other elective office of the City shall file a petition signed by ten (10) registered voters of the City of Winter Springs, Florida, with the City Clerk between October 15th and November 1st of the year during which the office shall be open for election, and shall submit a TEN DOLLARS ($10.00) filing fee at the time of such qualification. SECTION 3: BALLOT The City Clerk shall cause to be printed the ballots to be used at all elections and shall place on the said ballots the names of all qualified candidates. The form of ballot for general or special elections shall be as follows: The heading, office and candidate shown being sufficient to demonstrate the form required. OFFICIAL BALLOT GENERAL ELECTION WINTER SPRINGS, FLORIDA COUNCILMAN DISTRICT VOTE FOR ONE OFFICIAL BALLOT SPECIAL ELECTION WINTER SPRINGS, FLORIDA MAYOR VOTE FOR ONE SECTION 4: If any section or portion of a section of this ordinance proves to be invalid, unlawful, or unconstitutional it shall not be held to invalidate or impair the validity, force or effect of any other section or part of this ordinance. SECTION 5: This ordinance shall take effect immediately upon its final passage and adoption. PASSED AND ADOPTED this 16 day of October, 1972.
