My name is Tom Hoisington, a volunteer Troop Committee Chairman within the
Central Florida Council, Boy Scouts of America. This letter is to ask for your
assistance in recognizing the achievements and service of Shane Weeks, a
resident of this community and a member of Troop 787.
Would you please be so kind as to send Shane a letter of greeting, along with
any other items you wished to be presented to him during a recognition
ceremony to be held on May 28 at Willow Creek Presbyterian Church in Winter
Springs.
Please address your letter and recognitions to Eagle Scout Shane Weeks, in
care of the following address. All of the recognitions and letters will be compiled,
placed in a binder or other suitable keepsake, and after they are read, will be
displayed during this special occasion for Shane.

Important Facts About Eagle Scout
Shane Weeks
Shane is a junior at vVrnter Springs High School where he is a member of the Varsity
Track and Cross Country Teams. He was recently inducted into the Beta Club, a
national honor society. He has begun the application process to attend the United SCates
Air Force Academy and desires a career in this branch of the service. Shane is a volunteer
at the YNlCA and will serve as a counselor at the Y Summer Camp this year. Shane has
earned a total of thirty;tVJO merit badges; the. twelve required badges and twenty
electives.
Important Facts About Eagle Scouts
To achieve the rank of Eagle Scout, a young man is required to earn a minimum of
twenty"one merit badges. T'Nclve of these badges are required

Personal Management
First Aid
Swimming, Hiking,or
Cycling
Citizenship in the Nation Citizenship in the World
Personal Fitness Family life
Communications Camping
Environmental Sciences Emergency Preparedness or
lifesaving
The Scout is also required to earn a minimum of nine elective merit badges. These enable
the Scout to explore areas of personal interest.
Additionally, the Scout is required to demonstrate leadership ability by accepting
leadership positions within both his patrol and the troop; ancL through the completion of
a service project that benefits thecomm~ty.
The Eagle Court of Honor Handbook tells us that~ of 100 boys who join Scouting, ...
· Only rarely will one appear before a juvenile court
· T wclve will receive their first time rcli~ous contact
. Five mil receive Church affiliated awards
. One ",ill join the clergy of his chosen faith
