WHEREAS, World Town Planning Day is celebrated in 30 counh°ies on four continents each November
K. It is a special day to recognize and promote the role of planning in creating_ livable
communities. World Town Planning Day presents an excellent opportunity to look at
planning from a global perspective, and APA encourages its members to considei°
planning challenges and solutions around the globe on that day.
~'~Y [-IEREAS, The Americ-an Institute of Certitied Pl<nulers (AICP) endorses World Town Pla~ming Day
as a strategy to promote abroad-based awareness, support, and advocacy of community
and regional planning among the general public and all levels of government through
activitie-s in recognition of Amer[car~r accomplishments on World Town Planning Day,
November !i of each year.
WI-IEREAS, The inter~~ational organization for World `Town Planning Day was founded in 1949 by the
late Professor Carlos Maria delta Paolera of the University of Buenos Aires to advance
public and professional interest in plannii~rg, botPr locally and abroad. WTPD began to be
observed in many eounn•ies 2U-30 years ago. WTPD is promoted each year by the
International Society of City and Regional Planners (15oCaRP) headquartered at The
1-Ia~ue i^ The Netherlands.
WHEREAS World Town Planning Uay is celebrated to draw attention to the aims, objectives, and
progress of urban and regional planning around the globe and to highlight the valuable
conU-ibutions sound planning has made to the quality of global tnnnan settlements and
their environment and to give worldwide coverage to the. ideals of urban and regional
planning not only within the profession but also among the general public.
