Enclosed with this letter is a copy of a sample proclamation
in celebration of "National Employ the Handicapped Week." This
year the dates of designated week are October 1 - 7th.
The Congress of the United States by joint resolution approved
August 11, 1945 as amended (36U.S.C.155), has called for the
designation of the first full week in October of each year as
"National Employ the Handicapped Week." And each year since
then, State employment agencies have actively participated in
the celebration.
The purpose of this campaign is to inform and remind employers
and the public of the benefits to be gained by hiring disabled
persons. The campaign also seeks to inform disabled job seekers
of the year-round assistance available through local Job Service.
of Florida Offices.
The Job service of Florida in an effort to increase and improve
employment opportunities is working to overcome employer
reluctance to hiring handicapped job seekers. Employers are
being asked to remember that disabled persons represent a
valuable resource.
Your support of this activity would be gr8atly appreciated.
A proclamation declaring October 1 - 7 as "Employ the Handicapped
Week" and urging the hiring of these capable persons in your
community would be beneficial to all concerned.
Thank you for your help and concern.
