Red Ribbon Day
May 11, 1988
the abuse of drugs and alcohol in this country continues to pose a serious
threat to the health, safety, welfare, and well-being of children, youth and
adults: and
drug abuse is a problem of gigantic proportions among our children,
youth and adults, touching every segment of society, affecting~families
and individuals from all walks of life; and
it is the responsibility of the entire community to become involved in the
fight to combat drug and alcohol abuse; and, many groups have organized
to assist in helping others to become aware of the extent and nature of this
devastating problem; and
the "Just Say No" movement is a national campaign which is intended to
assist in preventing and reversing the use of drugs in schools and
communities, Similarly, Red Ribbon Day is intended to be a day of
awareness wherein all community members, along with our students, are
being asked to wear red ribbons to highlight the need to prevent the
abuse of drugs and alcohol;
that Winter Springs, in conjunction with other governmental bodies,
agencies, organizations, and businesses, hereby declares MAY 9
THROUGH MAY 13, 1988 AS "JUST SAY NO" TO DRUGS WEEK
and MAY 11, 1988 AS RED RIBBON DAY
and urges all Winter Springs personnel, students, parents, and all citizens
and residents of Seminole County to join in this campaign to combat the
substance abuse problem which is plaguing our county, state and nation,
DECLARED ON RED RIBBON DAY, MAY 11, 1988.
