PROCLAMATION
A PROCLAMATION OF THE CITY OF WINTER SPRINGS, FLORIDA,
SUPPORTING THE UNITED NATIONS GENERAL ASSEMBLY'S DESIGNA-
TION OF 1979 AS THE INTERNATIONAL YEAR OF THE CHILD AND
DESIGNATING MAY 5, 1979 AS YOUTH DAY IN THE CITY OF WINTER
SPRINGS, FLORIDA.
WHEREAS, The United Nations General Assembly, wanting to focus
time, energy and talents on the status of children and youth in the
community, have designated 1979 as International Year of the Child, and
WHEREAS, the International Year of the Child is concerned with
children everywhere, and expects local communities to focus their attention
on the needs and condition of youth as well as celebrating young people's
accomplishments, recognizing that poor nutrition, child abuse and distressing
educational, psychological and physical conditions do exist, and
WHEREAS, our youth are Winter Springs' most important resource and
we must respond with positive programs, functional services, effective 1egis-
1ation - concern, time and money, because we all recognize the vital link
between their status and the future well-being of the community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, we, the members of the City Council
of the City of Winter Springs, Florida, do hereby proclaim May 5, 1979, Youth
Day in the City of Winter Springs, Florida;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, we urge the citizens of this community to
join together during the week prior to Youth Day and on Youth Day to raise the
level of awareness of our youth and their needs. Let us all dedicate ourselves
to recognize the many fine programs sponsored by our citizens and agencies of
Winter Springs on behalf of the healthy growth and well-being of our young
people.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, beginning with this local celebration Youth
Day in Winter Springs, let us take action to provide lasting benefits for our
children and youth of Winter Springs, Florida.
