HomeMy WebLinkAbout2001 05 02 Minutes MINUTES Council of Local Government in Seminole County (CALNO) Oviedo City Hall Council Chambers 400 Alexandria Boulevard, Oviedo, Florida May 2, 2001 The meeting of the Council of Local Governments in Seminole County (CALNO) was held on Wednesday, May 2,2001 in the City of Oviedo Council Chambers, 400 Alexandria Boulevard Oviedo Florida. I. Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 7 :04 p.m. by Chairperson Gennell, followed by a moment of silence and the Pledge of Allegiance. Roll Call PRESENT: ABSENT: ALSO PRESENT: Commissioner Cindy Gennell, City of Winter Springs, CALNO Chairperson Commissioner Gary Brender, City of Lake Mary, CALNO Treasurer Councilman Robert Dallari, City of Oviedo Commissioner Art Woodruff, City of Sanford Board Member Jean Morris, (Left at 8:00 P.M.) Seminole County School Board for Board Member Diane Bauer Commissioner Linda Hart, City of Casselberry Commissioner Steve Wolfram, City of Altamonte Springs Commissioner Dan Anderson, City of Longwood Vice-President Dr. David T. Harrison, Seminole Community College Commissioner Daryl McLain, Seminole County Commission Commissioner Mike McLean, City of Lake Mary City Manager James Drago, City of Long wood Mr. Tom King, Facilities Superintendent, City of Oviedo Ms. Terry Rose, Meals on Wheels, Etc. Approval of Minutes A motion was made by Commissioner Brender and seconded by Councilman Dallari to approve the minutes of the February 7, 2001, Regular Meeting. Motion carried unanimously. A motion was made by Commissioner McLean and seconded by Commissioner Gennell to approve the minutes of the April 4, 2001, Regular Meeting. Motion carried unanimously. III. Treasurer's Report Commissioner Brender reported a balance of One Thousand Two Hundred Twenty Dollars and Sixty-Four Cents ($1,220.64) in the account with future expenses of pens and flowers for Secretary's Day. Chairperson Gennell stated that she. was waiting for a quotation to put the many boxes of minutes on optical disc. A motion was made by Councilman Dallari and seconded by Commissioner McLean to approve the Treasurer's Report. Motion carried unanimously. Councilman Dallari welcomed everyone to the City of Oviedo, and introduced the speakers. IV. Program A Mr. Tom King, Facilities Superintendent for the City of Oviedo, made a presentation regarding the City's Pilot Plan to determine the most cost effective program for treatment at the West Mitchell Hammock Water Treatment Facility. Mr. King passed out handouts prepared by Boyle Engineering Corporation, the City's consultants on the project. (A copy of the handout is attached and made part of this record. ) Mr. King explained the objectives, how the system operates, and how the City will benefit from the program. In conclusion, Mr. King extended an invitation to anyone CALNO Meeting, May 2, 2001 Page 3 interested, to tour the pilot plant and/or meet with the Engineers. After a question and answer period, Mr. King thanked the Council members for the opportunity to explain what he feels is the "cutting edge" of technology. V. Program B Ms. Terry Rose, Director of Community Relations for Meals on Wheels, Etc., gave a presentation about the many services offered to Senior Citizens throughout Seminole County. Ms. Rose listed costs involved in each of the categories of services rendered. Ms. Rose asked that each community representative present take the needs of their frail and elderly citizens into consideration when they look at their budget. Ms. Rose noted that Meals on Wheels, Etc. had provided the catering services for this event, and that they hoped to turn their kitchen into a money-making service that would help fund the services provided to the elderly. She asked that their catering service be considered for any work sessions, or any fraternal or civic organization meeting requiring food service. Ms. Rose made an open invitation to City and Civic leaders to tour their facilities and urged them to consider the large banquet-style room available for lease. Brochures were available, and made part of this record. VI. Reports from Members Commissioner Gary Brender, City of Lake Mary- * Reported that the Marriott 10-story headquarter hotel was underway at the interchange of 1-4 and 46A. * Stated that annexation talks were continuing with Colonialtown Properties, on the NW corner of the 1-4 and 46A intersection. * Reported that four of Lake Mary's Commissioners are going to West Palm Beach to visit the West Palm Beach Downtown Development Board and to tour the City. * Reported that he had been invited by the City of Oviedo to speak at their next Council meeting about the ongoing battle over the Greenway Interchange. CALNO Meeting, May 2, 2001 Page 4 Commissioner Art Woodruff, City of Sanford - * Stated he was glad to be a new member of CALNO, taking over for Commissioner Brady Lessard, who is now the Mayor of Sanford. Meeting was adjourned at 8:15 P.M. Future Meeting: June 6, 2001, City of Sanford at Sanford-Orlando International Airport.
