LONGWOOD . CASSELBERRY . ALTAMONTE . OVIEDO SPRINGS SEMINOLE COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD May 26, 2000 Honorable Mayor Lovestrand: Enclosed is a resolution of the Council of Local Governments in Seminole County relative to the provision of additional cable television channels for use by the educational community and local governments. This proposal is being set forth in view of the needs expressed by the Seminole Government Television Council to accommodate both current and future local demand. As you know, neither Seminole County School Board nor Seminole Community College has franchising authority. As a result, they have not been the beneficiaries of negotiations relative to the opportunities that cable television offers for public education. In addition, it is anticipated that the current single channel will not be adequate for the future needs of the municipalities in Seminole County. Recognizing that most of the local governments will be reviewing their cable franchise agreements, the Council of Local Governments in Seminole County has set forth their recommendation in the form of the enclosed resolution. We respectfully request that you place this subject on a meeting agenda for discussion by your commission in the near future. We feel that this approach, if endorsed by the majority of local municipalities, will result in greatly improved public service to the citizens of Seminole County, both now and in the foreseeable future. If you have any questions or would like someone to make a formal presentation, please feel free to contact me at 407-327-7583 or leave a message with my city clerk, Andrea, at 407-327-1800, Ext. 227.
