CALNO members directed the chairman to develop a Resolution for the next CALNO meeting to support the establishment of three channels for government and education for immediate use and two additional channels for future use, to possibly include the Seminole County Sheriff's department. The intention of the members of the Council of Local Governments is to encourage member jurisdictions, who are engaging in franchise negotiations with cable providers, to support the provision of additional cable channels for the future public benefit of all Seminole County citizens. Water Resource Resolution: Discussion regarding a Resolution encouraging mutual cooperation on water resources resulted in a consensus to take no formal action, as the process appears to be taking place already. Tour Of The Seminole County Correctional Facility: Greg Fuch, Public Corrections Director, passed out a handout with statistical details about the jail operations and other related information. Following a brief introduction, Sheriff Don Eslinger led the members on a tour of the facility. The jail averages 19,000 bookings a year, excluding federal prisoners. Inmates have no televisions, weight machines, coffee or cigarettes. All inmates are required to work. The biggest perks for inmates are newspapers and telephone access. The current facility was built to house 812 inmates. On that date there were 915 inmates housed in the jail, including 11 juveniles charged as adults, 3 of who were charged with murder. The members left at the end of the tour.
