HomeMy WebLinkAbout1989 11 08 Minutes COUNCIL OF LOCAL GOVERNMENTS IN SEMINOLE COUNTY NOVEMBER 8, 1989 The regular meeting of the Council of Local Governments in Seminole County was held at Winter Springs City Hall on November 8, 1989 at 7:00 p. m. MEMBERS Commissioner Lee Constantine, Altamonte Springs Mayor Owen Sheppard, Casselberry Commissioner Thomas K. Mahoney, Lake Mary Commissioner Hank Hardy, Longwood Councilperson Jane Dees, Oviedo Commissioner Whitey Eckstein, Sanford Commissioner Jennifer Kelley, Seminolp. County Nancy Warren, Seminole County School Board Deputy Mayor Philip A. Kulbes, Winter Springs PRESENT X X X X X X X ALSO PRESENT Brian Federico, Oviedo Outlook CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order by Chairman Lee Constantine. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE APPROVAL OF MINUTES Moved by Councilperson Jane Dees to approve the minutes of Sept. 6th and Oct. 4, 1989. Second by Commissioner Hardy. Carried unanimously. TREASURER'S REPORT Commissioner Mahoney reported that the balance remains unchanged for the second consecutive month at $340.68. OLD BUSINESS Mayor Shepard gave an update on Group Insurance. He said at this time we could not self-insure, but the idea of the cities banning together to get better rates is being looked into. The problem with that is that each City has different types of coverage, so each City was asked to provide a list of benefits. Then these will all be coordinated, and a recommendation will be given to this Council. NEW BUSINESS There was no host presentation. There was discussion of what is happening in the County and what effect those actions will be on the Cities. Council of Local Government Meeting Nov. 8, 1989 Page 2 There was discussion of the Special Referendum Election for the 'Green Penny' Voted One cent gas tax which failed. DISCUSSION OF DECEMBER AGENDA The December meeting will be held at Altamonte Springs on December 6, 1989. There will be an insurance update, and if we have an interim County Administrator, it was suggested to invite him or her to the meeting for a general discussion. REPORTS FROM MEMBERS WINTER SPRINGS Deputy Mayor Philip A. Kulbes reported a new post office facility is being built in Winter Springs on S. R. 434. The City is getting ready to develop their City park, and they are in the process of acquiring Seminole Utility Company. OVIEDO The City has had a fire truck repainted. Oviedo is also out for bids for their new City park, and they are in the middle of all kinds of bids for their new City Hall. LONGWOOD Longwood also has a park under development. The City has a C.R. 427 project underway to beautify that road. There is much road building work being done in Longwood. Commissioner Hardy said Wildmere, C.R. 427, Charlotte and the Dog Tract area are torn up and should be avoided if possible. LAKE MARY Commissioner Mahoney spoke about the architect for their new City Hall going out of business. He said the City is in the process of selecting a City Engineer. CASSELBERRY Mayor Shepard reported there will be a new slate in their City Government starting December 11th. There was a referendum to try to change the election date to April but that failed. ALTAMONTE SPRINGS Commissioner Constantine reported that North Lake Boulevard was opened up the other day. The Altamonte Mall has been renovated and is now re-opened and several other shopping centers have been opened. Storer Cable television has been bought by Cablevision. Commissioner Constantine reported the Greater Seminole County Chamber of Commerce will be moving to new offices off of 1-4 and S.R. 434. Meeting was adjourned 8:05 p.m.
