HomeMy WebLinkAbout1987 11 04 Minutes MINUTES OF THE CALNO MEETING NOVEMBER 4, 1987 LONGWOOD CITY HALL I. Call to order. Chairman Jane Dees called the meeting to order at 7:15 p.m. II. Pledge of Allegiance III. Roll Call Present: Commissioner Lee Constantine, Altamone Springs Commissioner Tom Mahoney, Lake Mary Deputy Mayor June Lormann, Longwood Commissioner Jane Dees, Oviedo Mayor Bettye Smith, Sanford Seminole County Commissioner Bill Kirchhoff Mayor Ed Myers, Longwood Ralph Bormet, Citizens Outlook IV. Approval of Minutes: Commissioner Kirchhoff suggested that the first sentence under VII. New Business be corrected to read Lyman High School instead of Mr. Hooper's home. DepMayor Lormann requested that Treasurer's Report be to read $429.69 instead of $429.59. Motion by Commissioner Constantine, seconded by Commissioner Kirchhoff that minutes be approved, as corrected. Motion carried by a voice vote. V. Treasurer's Report: Deputy Mayor Lormann said the the same as the previous report, latest balance $429.69. remained VI. Old Business. A. New State Taxes. Chairman Dees stated that there was no additional information to report. B. Solid Waste. A letter from Sidney Martin, Chairman of the House Natural Resources Committee was discussed which urged local officials to establish recycling programs as way to reduce the amount of waste going into landfills. Mayor Smith advised that the State of New Jersey Jersey has a very successful recycling program which requires 3 separate containers for paper, glass and organic materials. Commissioner Constantine was requested to arrange for a representative from Orlando to report on Orlando's recycling program at next meeting. Reports from Members: VII. A. Altamonte Springs. Commissioner Constantine stated repairs had been completed to the Westmont Recreation Facility and he said the facility would more effective. Commissioner Constantine said the new water tower had been painted. Commissioner Constantine said Bell South had offered the City of Altamonte Springs $ 7,000 a year to install an antenna on the tower to improve reception. He said the antenna would be barely visible. Commissioner Constantine said the Employee's Haunted Mansion was a great success on Halloween and over 20,000 people visited the mansion. B. Lake Mary. Commissioner Mahoney reported that City Manager Bob Norris had suffered a heart attack but was recovering well. Commissioner Mahoney said that Frank Kruppenbacher, City Attorney had resigned. The City is considering 4 sites for a municipal complex. The City had a very successful Arts and Craft Festival and netted between $10,000 and $15,000 which would be given to the Chamber of Commerce Scholarship Fund. Commissioner Mahoney briefed the members on the difficulty they had experienced with the site for the new post office when the lot was cleared of trees without any regard for Lake Mary's Arbor Ordinance or site plan regulations. C. Longwood. DepMayor Lormann discussed the results of the City Election and said Longwood would have an Arts and Craft Festival on November 21 and 22. DepMayor Lormann announced that the Police Department conducted a very successful Halloween Night. DepMayor Lormann said the Longwood Finance and Water Departments and City Attorney had moved into the renovated old police station. D. Oviedo. Chairman Dees said that the Oviedo Building Department had moved into a new site which was formerly a canning kitchen. Chairman Dees said the City had recently dismissed their Chief of Police which was a difficult job. Chairman Dees described a program with the Seminole Self Reliant Housing which had completed 70 new homes which enabled low income families to purchase homes. E. Sanford. Mayor Smith said the City of Sanford would host the Golden Age Games next week and the City was attempting to use grant funds for a service center. Mayor Smith said she wanted to show members the West side neighborhood during the January meeting in Sanford. F. Seminole County. Commissioner Kirchhoff stated that the new library being built in Sanford should be completed by 12/1/87 and would be beautiful. VIII.
