Dear Governor Graham:
The coal-fired power plant being proposed by the Orlando Utilities Commission for
construction in Orange County will affect the quality of life of thousands of
people who live in communities adjacent to Orange County.
Impact on the roads and traffic in the cities on the preferred coal supply train
route has not been objectively studied though DOT did have imput into the DER
sCudy. To date we have only the proponents assurance that the supplying of coal
by 90 open train cars will not be harmful to health or disruptive to traffic.
FivE additiun3.c rrains per..;eek would be crossing the highways according to the
JJC spokesperson at a rece,\[ meeting in Altamonte Springs. Since traffic on
highway #436 is already 212% of capacity, we are concerned about this road as well
as highways # 434, 427 and 46 where crossing occur in fast growing Seminole
County. We are also concerned because OUC officials were not able to answer
questions of concern about the control of dust left in the train cars when they
pass through the county on their ~eturn trip.
An alternate route is available to the west through towns which will benefit from
the output of energy from the power plant proposed for Orange County.
The League of Women Voters of Seminole County is concerned about the impact the
use of the preferred coal supply train route will have on the quality of life in
Seminole County communities which will not benefit from the new facility.
