"'rq: ALL LAW INFORCD-IENT AGENCIES IN SEMINOLE COUNTY
FROM: RALPH WILLIS, ANIMAL WELFARE OFFICIAL, SEMINOLE COUNTY
DATE: APRIL 25, 1980
SUBJECT: ANIMAL CONTROL POLICIES
I would like to supply the below information to you, In
hopes that animal control can better serve the public and
properly assist law enforcement agencies in Seminole County In
animal related calls.
Animal Control is in operation for all calls between the
hours of 8AM and 4:30PM on Mondays and Saturdays, 8AM to 6PM
Tues, Wed, Thurs ilnd Fri. Our shelter is also open during
these hours for redemptions and adoptions. Outside of these
hours we have an animal control officer on emergency standby
with a pager. They can be contacted through the Sheriff's
Dept. or Fire Rescue and they will call you in a matter of
minutes. An emergency is where life or property is in danger
or an incident that can not wait until morning. On incidents
where the information is vague or not confirmed it would be
greatly appreciatedif one of your units could check it out
before dispatching the animal control officer Hith the pager.
We greatly appreciate the cooperation and assistance we
llave received from you and if one of your officers requests
assistance from animal control, even though it is not a bona-
fide emergency, I have instructed 'them to honor the request.
I have received some complaints in the past in regard to
dead animals not being picked up when they shqald be. If an
animal is killed by a car in the middle of the night, we usually
do not pick it up until morning.
If the animal is moved it is important that we know the
new location. If you could make out a report and give the new
location and ask your day shift to call us shortly after 8AM.
We will give this call priority and retrieve the dead animal
during the morning hours. If at any time our trucks fail to
pick up the dead- animal during the morning hours, I would
appreciate it if you would call me personnally. I have
instructed our officers to follow up on any dead animals that
can not be Ideated. They are to check back with you in the
event the location is in error.
If it is felt that our policies are not being carried out,
or that our performance is lax, I would appreciate it if you
would contact me and will look into the matter immediately.
