Green, Energy & Climate Conference— 100 Cities Summit to be held
�oit o e on May 25 -26, 2010 at the Palm Beach County Convention Center in
West Palm Beach, Florida. The grant covers conference registration, all
conference meals and accommodations for two nights at the Marriott
West Palm Beach. Transportation is not included.

Session 1: The Foundation of a Sustainable Future.
Session will focus on the macro forces driving Florida toward a more sustainable future. Participants
will explore how government policies, regulations, public demand, economic needs, market shifts and
emerging technologies fundamentally challenge and evolve the assumptions underlying "business -as-
usual." Groups will discuss the need to develop alternate strategies and objective measures to
maximize the economic, social and environmental benefits of their green objectives.
Discussion topics include:
How does Florida move beyond divisive debates about energy, climate change and sustainability
to collaborate on a more prosperous future?
What are the risks to Florida if the present course is continued?
What are the limits to Florida's natural and social capital?
What are the benefits of green leadership and the costs of falling behind?
Desired outcome: A shared sense of urgency and commitment to move forward.
Session 2: Developing a Sustainable Vision.
Session will involve a series of fast -paced exercises designed to identify a set of possible futures for
Florida. Group discussions will explore how greener, cleaner and more energy efficient principles
impact Florida's quality of life and ability to compete. Participants will organize around shared
concepts of Florida's future and identify specific tools and tactics to accelerate desired progress.
Discussion topics include:
What are the assumptions about the future that shape existing strategies?
What do existing energy and resource consumption patterns tell us about Florida's future?
How are other communities, industries and businesses taking control of the future?
How does our vision align with our social, environmental and economic priorities?
What policies, tools or resources are needed to get there?
Desired outcome: Build consensus around a series of strategic objectives and identify specific tools
and tactics required.

Session 3: Leveraging the Power of Partnership.
Session will focus on how new partnership and linkages can dramatically accelerate Florida's green
progress. Groups will uncover potential collaborations with businesses, communities, governments,
citizen groups and utilities to increase the productivity of green initiatives. Tools and resources to
develop and achieve a sustainable future will be identified. Case studies will highlight successful
models and best practices across Florida and the nation.
Discussion topics include:
What is the best response to Florida's systemic energy and environmental challenges?
How can participants work together to make our communities more sustainable?
How can the public and private sector build strategies to create a desired future?
How will new partnerships attract new customers and create new markets?
Desired outcome: Increase green cooperation to save time and money.
Session 4: The Roadmap to Green
Session will apply insights from workshops and general conference to prioritize immediate action
steps. Participants will receive a resource guide to assist with the implementation of green plans.
Groups will create a strategic map with timelines to move their communities, businesses and Florida
forward. Attendees will formalize plans to support common goals and long -term objectives.
Participants will contribute language to a declaration of principles that will serve as a catalyst for local
governments to begin coordinating green initiatives.
Discussion topics include:
How do we improve our understanding of the systems we depend upon for economic success?
How can we work together on the issues and challenges we share?
What are the greatest opportunities for Florida to demonstrate green leadership?
What is the most immediate, measurable and realistic action that will deliver the greatest
result?
Desired outcome: A public commitment to convert fragmented green efforts into coordinated and
measurable progress within one year.
