Authorization
REQUEST: The Parks and Recreation Department requests the City Commission to
authorize the Mayor to execute the Fifth Addendum to the MV
Transportation agreement for Senior Center Transportation for one (1) year.
PURPOSE: The purpose of this item is to obtain City Commission approval to execute
the Senior Center Transportation Agreement Fifth Addendum for one (1)
year.
CONSIDERATIONS:
• The MV Transportation Agreement for Senior Center Transportation was originally
approved on March 24, 2003. The City Commission has approved 4 yearly
addendums.
• Parks and Recreation has tried to locate a company to provide this specialized service
to no avail. Only MV bid this service in 2003.
• The agreement includes a cost increase over last year of 5% to $81.56 per hour. The
maximum amount to be paid is $25,000.00 which is budgeted in FY 09/10.
• Should the Senior Center need transportation more than 2 days per week, the cost per
hour would be reduced to 3 days - $67.78; 4 days - $59.13; and 5 days - $55.45.
• Staff is pleased with the service provided by MV Transportation and agrees to the
reasonable increase in the hourly fee (5%).
• Parks and Recreation staff has reviewed the ridership and determined that all users
need this service because they have no other means of transportation.
• The Senior Transportation Program brought 1,371 Winter Springs seniors to and from
the Senior Center for 9 months this FY.
FUNDING:
Budgeted in 09/10, Account 7250-53186, $25,000.
