RESOLUTION NUMBER 2006-29
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF WINTER SPRINGS, FLORIDA, IN
COOPERATION WITH THE CITY OF OVIEDO, FLORIDA
SUPPORTING A REQUEST TO THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF
TRANSPORT A TION (FDOT) TO REDUCE THE SPEED LIMIT ON
STATE ROAD 434 WITHIN THE CITIES OF WINTER SPRINGS AND
OVIEDO AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City of Winter Springs, Florida and the City of Oviedo, Florida are
municipalities in Seminole County, Florida through which State Road 434 traverses; and
WHEREAS, the City of Winter Springs, Florida and the City of Oviedo, Florida
recognize that State Road 434 is a State maintained roadway with a speed limit instituted by the
State; and
WHEREAS, the City of Winter Springs, Florida and the City of Oviedo, Florida desire
to see a reduction in the speed limit on State Road 434; and
WHEREAS, the City of Winter Springs, Florida and the City of Oviedo, Florida believe
that a reduction in the speed limit along State Road 434 would reduce the amount of vehicular
incidents including vehicular to vehicular collisions, vehicular/pedestrian collisions, near misses
and speed-related traffic infractions; and
WHEREAS, the City of Winter Springs, Florida and the City of Oviedo, Florida are in
full and complete agreement that the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) should act
post haste to reduce the speed limit on State Road 434 from its current limits of 35-miles per
hour in some areas and 45 miles-per-hour and 50 miles-per-hour in still other areas to
appropriate and safe speed limits based on engineering analysis, resulting in a safer roadway.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF WINTER SPRINGS, FLORIDA, that we hereby concur with the City of Oviedo
City Council in supporting a request to the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) to
reduce the speed limit on State Road 434 within the corporate limits of Oviedo and Winter
Springs.
