IT Department Purchase of Eighteen (18) Replacement Toughbook Laptop Computers
for Police Department
SUMMARY
The IT Department in conjunction with our Police Department would like to purchase
18 Toughbook Computers to replace outdated, out of warranty existing Laptops. The
Toughbook laptop is built for police/military work. These devices are specifically
engineered and built for the City's needs. Unlike previous purchased laptops, these
devices have been proven to perform reliable in extreme elements. They offer
durability against drops, rain, heat, and cold. For over ten years the police department
has been utilizing these Toughbook laptops for police work. The Police Department
has a need to keep up with a replacement plan, and the Information Technology
Dept., who oversees the shelf life of these computers, has identified 18 out of
warranty laptops of which 10 are in critical need of replacement. Without this critical
piece of equipment, significant operational challenges to officers exists.
Equipment and software specifications and details are confidential and exempt
from public records disclosure under § 119.0725, Florida Statutes which exempts
network schematics, hardware and software configurations, and encryption
information. The Commission can receive additional information about this
proposed purchase from the City Manager's Office.
FUNDING SOURCE
These computers have been budgeted for within the FY 26 budget.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends The City Commission approve the purchase of 18 replacement
ruggedized Laptop computers for sworn law enforcement officers through Conversa
Solutions. Conversa Solutions is an authorized dealer for the equipment. The total
purchase price for these laptops is $68,638.00, or $3,813.22 for each unit.
