HomeMy WebLinkAbout2025 10 07 Veteran and Veteran Family Regular Meeting Minutes VETERAN AND VETERAN FAMILY ADVISORY COMMITTEE REGULAR MEETING MINUTES OCTOBER 7, 2025 [RESCHEDULED FROM OCTOBER 9, 2025] CITY HALL – COMMISSION CHAMBERS CITY OF WINTER SPRINGS, FLORIDA CALL TO ORDER Chairperson Laurel Ross called to order the Tuesday, October 7, 2025, Veteran and Veteran Family Advisory Committee Regular Meeting at 5:30 p.m. in the Commission Chambers of the Municipal Building (City Hall, 1126 East State Road 434, Winter Springs, Florida 32708). Roll Call: Chairperson Laurel Ross, present Vice-Chairperson Robert Miller, present Committee Member Scott Sims, present Committee Member Gus Douglas, present Committee Member Kim Bean, present Committee Member Paul Dillman, present Committee Member Margo Orf, present Assistant City Clerk Tristin Tarrant, present Also present: Ms. Hannah Kirsch, Recreation & Events Manager, Parks Department Mr. Brian Dunigan, Director of Administrative Services and Operations Committee Member Orf led the invocation followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. AWARDS AND PRESENTATIONS 100. Not Used INFORMATIONAL AGENDA 200. Not Used PUBLIC INPUT Chairperson Ross opened Public Input. No one addressed the Committee Chairperson Ross closed Public Input. CONSENT AGENDA 300) Approval of the July 10, 2025, Veteran and Veteran Family Advisory Committee Regular Meeting Minutes "I MAKE A MOTION THAT WE APPROVE THE MINUTES.” MOTION BY VICE-CHAIRPERSON MILLER. SECONDED BY COMMITTEE MEMBER SIMS. ALL IN FAVOR. NONE OPPOSED. Not Used REGULAR AGENDA 500) Veterans Day Program Update Ms. Kirsch started the item by relaying updates of the event program, that the city is working with the Rotary, and relayed an outlined timeline. Ms. Kirsch also relayed the two options for if it rains the day of the event. Additional updated plaques will be added to the wall, and the Hometown hero will be awarded at the event. Ms. Kirsch also relayed the city agreed to one information booth for any organization that would like to be present at the event but also wanted to gauge to see if more organizations would like to be included. Discussion ensued on the information that would need to be provided to staff as well as the interested parties. 501) Veteran Banner Program Update Ms. Kirsh opened the item and relayed the item scheduled to be presented at the Monday, October 13th Commission meeting. Staff took the suggests of the Committee and made the appropriate changes to the program. Ms. Kirsh highlighted the associated fees for the Committee which details the initial cost, renewal, and update costs for the banners. Additional questions regarding storage, the hanging dates, and advertisement of the program were discussed and staff responded in kind to all inquiries . Ms. Kirsch additionally clarified for the committee the future registration dates after approval. 504) Newsletter Items: November – January 2026 Chairperson Ross opened the item and started off the suggestions for the newsletter enters with “Information on the booths for Veterans Day event” as November’s entry. Further suggestions were given to have December’s entry being the top10 locations and times for places within Winter Springs and Oviedo that individuals can donate “Toys for Tots” with the American Legion. Further suggestions were given like Veteran organizations at the Highland games and getting color guard for the opening ceremony. Discussion ensued on getting in contact with the organizers of the Highland games and having the Veterans do the opening ceremony. It was decided that January’s entry for the Newsletter would be an invitation style entry to the see the Veterans at the Central Florida Highland Games. Clarification and brief review ensued on the procedure for reschedule notices and the 2026 meeting dates for the committee.
