HomeMy WebLinkAbout2024 06 05 PARAC Regular Meeting Minutes CITY OF WINTER SPRINGS, FLORIDA MINUTES PARKS AND RECREATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE REGULAR MEETING JUNE 05, 2024 CALL TO ORDER Vice-Chairperson Andrew Zacharias called the Regular Meeting of Wednesday, June 05, 2024 of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee to order at 5:30 p.m. in the Commission Chambers of the Municipal Building (City Hall, 1126 East State Road 434, Winter Springs, Florida 32708). Roll Call: Chairperson Jim Van Kleunen, absent Vice-Chairperson Andrew Zacharias, present Committee Member Sabrina Parsons, present Committee Member Jeff Crandall, absent Committee Member Jason Maitland, present Committee Member Desma Underwood, present Committee Member Jason Byrne, present Committee Member Paul Diaz, present Committee Member John Classe, present Assistant City Clerk Tristin Motter, present Also present: Mr. Michael Krist, Parks Manager, Parks and Recreation Department A moment of silence was held and was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. AWARDS AND PRESENTATIONS 100) Not Used INFORMATIONAL AGENDA 200) Not Used PUBLIC INPUT Vice-Chairperson Zach opened “Public Input”. Ms. Leah Weisman, 113 Brookshire Court, Winter Springs spoke about handicap parking in parks and events at the parks and courts. spoke regarding pickleball and Trotwood Park food truck. Vice-Chairperson Zach closed “Public Input”. CONSENT AGENDA CITY OF WINTER SPRINGS, FLORIDA MINUTES PARKS AND RECREATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE REGULAR MEETING – JUNE 05, 2024 PAGE 2 OF 3 300) Approval of the Wednesday, February 7, 2024 Parks and Recreation Regular Meeting Minutes "MOVE TO APPROVE THE MINUTES." MOTION BY COMMITTEE MEMBER BYRNE. SECONDED BY COMMITTEE MEMBER DIAZ. DISCUSSION. ALL IN FAVOR AND NO OPPOSITION WAS GIVEN. MOTION PASSED WITH UNANIMOUS CONSENT MOTION CARRIED. PUBLIC HEARINGS AGENDA 400) Not Used REGULAR AGENDA - PART II 500) Project and Events Update Mr. Krist reviewed the presentation given on updates and programs happening within the city. Discussion regarding shade, the open play and reservation, and rates for the pickleball courts ensued. Staff explained the systems for both during the week and on the weekends as well as the rate for residents and non-residents who want to reserve a court for pickleball. Special events and tournaments, reservation tracking, and revenue estimation were also discussed regarding the new pickleball courts. Staff responded in kind, relaying the groups that have already shown interested in holding tournaments at the courts and relaying the reservation system has internal tracking. Additionally, staff could collect and share the revenue estimations with the Committee once gathered and supply for future meetings. 600. REPORTS No Reports were given. PUBLIC INPUT Vice-Chairperson Zach opened “Public Input”. Ms. Leah Weisman, 113 Brookshire Court, Winter Springs further spoke on handicap parking and ADA compliance within the city. Committee Member Parsons asked about looking into the handicap parking at the parks and verifying the city is in compliance. Vice-Chairperson Zach closed “Public Input”. ADJOURNMENT Vice-Chairperson Zach adjourned the Regular Meeting at 5:57pm.
