HomeMy WebLinkAbout2022 05 23 Consent 303 - Donation for Sam Smith ParkCONSENT AGENDA ITEM 303 CITY COMMISSION AGENDA | MAY 23, 2022 REGULAR MEETING TITLE Donation for Sam Smith Park SUMMARY Karen Brook has offered to donate $20,000 of Tuscawilla Pioneer Garden Club funding to Sam Smith's Park to cover the construction costs for "Sam's Deck", the new deck at the park, and to honor her parents, Mary and Gary Brook. A plaque will be placed at the site honoring the donation and Mary and Gary Brook. Over the years, the Tuscawilla Pioneer Garden Club, and Mary and Gary Brook, performed acts of beautification throughout the park which has been enjoyed by many of residents. Their efforts were not confined to the park itself. Mary was fully involved with the community. She was the Chairperson of the Tuscawilla Lighting and Beautification District Advisory Committee, President of the Tuscawilla Pioneer Garden Club, volunteered at the Winter Springs Police Department as a Citizen on Patrol, a contributor to the Tuscawilla Today Newsletter, coordinated the community holiday wreaths and provided Luminaries for the entrance fountains and neighborhoods in Tuscawilla. Gary was very active in the community as well. He was the Treasurer for the Tuscawilla Homeowners Association, Chairman of the Unit 12/12A Wall Committee, Vice-Chairman of the City of Winter Springs Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee, provider of Luminaries and a Citizen on Patrol with the Winter Springs Police Department. Presentation to be held at first Commission meeting in June. RECOMMENDATION Staff recommends Commission approve accepting Donation of $20,000 from Karen Brook to be dedicated for 'Sam's Deck" at Sam Smith Park. Additionally, staff recommends authorizing the City Manager and City Attorney prepare and execute any and all documents consistent with this agenda item. 48
