The Base price + options total $660,290.75. The total cost will be reduced by a trade in credit of $100,000 and a customer discount of $10,290.75 bringing the total purchase to $550,000. The trade in credit is coming from Asset 303861 Vac-con Sewer Combination Cleaner purchased in 2018 and is fully depreciated. The size of this truck is insufficient to meet the emergency needs of the Utility Department and it has reached the end of its useful life. This asset is included in the surplus asset agenda presented in a separate agenda item. Funding for this purchase will come from the recognition of $100,000 credit on fully depreciated trade-in equipment and a portion of the proceeds received from Duke Energy on sale of easement rights. A vacuum truck is indeed a crucial component of utility fleets, particularly in maintaining wastewater systems and responding to emergencies like line breaks. Here's why: Lift Station Relief: Lift stations are important components of wastewater systems that help in moving sewage from lower to higher elevations. These stations can sometimes get clogged or overwhelmed with debris, causing backups and other issues. Vacuum trucks are used to remove the accumulated solids and liquids from these stations, providing relief and ensuring smooth operation. Line Break Response: Line breaks in sewage or water lines can lead to environmental hazards, property damage, and service disruptions. Vacuum trucks play a vital role in responding to these emergencies by quickly removing the spilled liquids and preventing contamination of water sources or soil. They can efficiently extract large volumes of fluids, facilitating faster cleanup and repair operations. Versatility: Vacuum trucks are versatile machines equipped with powerful suction capabilities. They can handle a wide range of materials, from liquid sludge and sewage to solid debris and hazardous waste. This 584 versatility makes them indispensable for various utility tasks, including routine maintenance, emergency response, and industrial cleaning. Preventive Maintenance: Regular maintenance of wastewater infrastructure is essential for preventing costly breakdowns and ensuring regulatory compliance. Vacuum trucks are used for routine cleaning of sewer lines, storm drains, and other utility assets, helping to remove accumulated debris, grease, and sediment that can cause blockages and impair system performance. Efficiency and Safety: Vacuum trucks offer efficient and safe solutions for handling hazardous materials and contaminated liquids. Their powerful vacuum systems minimize manual labor and exposure to potentially harmful substances, reducing risks to workers and the environment. Additionally, these trucks are equipped with features such as spill containment systems and specialized filtration units to enhance safety and environmental protection. Overall, the presence of vacuum trucks in utility fleets significantly contributes to the reliability, resilience, and sustainability of wastewater management systems, making them an essential asset for utilities and municipalities. FUNDING SOURCE Recognition of $100,000 credit on fully depreciated trade-in equipment and a portion of the proceeds received from Duke Energy on sale of easement rights. RECOMMENDATION Staff requests the City Commission to consider and approve the purchase of this new Aqua Tech Vac Truck in the amount of $550,000. 585 2141 W.
